My first pot here and I hope someone will be able to help before I give up on Plex. I’ve been using a Plex Server on my Shield TV for about 8 months now and so far, my experience as been nothing but frustration. Don’t get me wrong, I really want to love Plex as I think it could be a fantastic app if I can manage to make it stable.
My main use of Plex Server is to stream my music around the house and outside. I have about 1 tb of music (MP3 and FLAC) stored on en external hard drive (Seagate Backup Plus 1.5tb USB3) which is attached on the Shield TV. The server use to go down every couple of days or sometimes after a week or two for no apparent reasons. Not very convenient, but I always managed to restart it either by going in the settings or by restarting the Shield TV. In the last month or so, it became a nightmare. Server started to go down and the only way I could start it again was by uninstalling updates and restarting the whole process, which takes me hours to set back the library to my liking and even though I have a plex pass, the option of setting a premium library is now gone and I no longer have artist artwork, no longer have the option of plex mix and no more lyrics.
A week ago, I started AGAIN the whole process hoping that it would finally work and the server stayed on for 48hours, then nothing but ‘‘SERVER OFFLINE’’. I once again restarted from scratch two days ago and everything seemed to go smooth (even though I still have no premium library options), but after scanning my library for almost 18hours, server went offline again and I can’t find a way to turn it back on. When I go in the settings on my Shield TV, the app is sometimes lagging and sometimes screen freezes. Restarting the Shield use to help, but not anymore. I don’t know what to do. I can’t seems to be able to add a library without having the server to crash.
So far I tried to log off the web Plex app and on my server and log on again. Didn’t work. My hard drive is fine as I can play my music with Kodi. Plex and Plex server app are updated. I have not done any changes to my internet but my knowledge is rather limited in that matter.
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long first post.
