Problem with remote NAS access

I have a western digital NAS (My Cloud Home Duo), I had a Plex account before using my computer as a server. After installing Plex on the NAS I added it to the account. I cannot access the content on the NAS from outside my network if my computer is not on.

How can I make the Plex account use the NAS directly?

Just for confirmation… You can access both separate servers from within your home network and both have separate names?

How did you enable Remote access on your NAS Plex Media Server and the Router?

  • Are you using UPnP or a manual port forward?
  • Does your NAS have a IP reservation / static IP address within your home network?
  • If you have a manual port forward on the router… did you add a 2nd port to forward the remote connection to the NAS IP address?

Yes, I can access both servers. Although right now the NAS server seems to be offline.

To access the NAS, I installed the Plex application from the My Cloud Home website and enabled port 32400 on my router. I did nothing else.

I don’t know if I’m missing steps, or if I did it wrong. I’m sorry I can’t answer more things.

You could check out if your router supports manual port forwards and establish 1 port forward for each server.

Example:

  • 32400 tcp -> local IP address of the old server
  • 32401 tcp -> local IP address of the NAS

In that example, make sure to configure the remote access settings of that particular Plex server in accordance with this setup (check Manually specify public port under Settings > Server > Remote Access and enter the correct port – so 32400 for the old server and 32401 for the NAS based server).

Actually, the old server is not needed, just the NAS. Could the old server be removed from Plex and just use the NAS?

Thanks a lot for the help, I can already get the NAS to come out as connected. The only thing I can’t get is remote access. I give it remote access, it activates and the second it fails. I checked that port 32400 is open and uninstalled the Plex media server on my computer.

sometimes the remote access status indicator within Plex is off…
