I have a problem with subtitles to watch on my Samsung TV. Certain videos like Netflix and Apple TV don’t show the option to change the subtitle, it just comes selected and it’s huge on the screen, I could never figure out how to solve this, does anyone know?
So what does this have to do with Plex?
What do you mean?
I’m not using Netflix or Apples TV, I’m using PLEX, I downloaded movies/series that were made by them and they come with embedded subtitles. I use PLEX Server on a Windows 11 and I have PLEX on my Samsung TV and I load the videos over the network on the TV. For example, I started watching an Apple TV series called Foundation, on the PLEX of the TV I can’t watch it because of this subtitle problem, watching it on the computer works normally.
For this discussion it doesn’t matter who made them.
As far as I can see from your account, you are using a quite old Samsung TV model. This TV is still running the old “Orca app”, which has been out of support for years now.
All I can advise you is this: Try and extract the subtitle using e.g. Subtitle Edit
then store it in SRT format beside the video file. Named exactly like the video file, except for the file name extension.
After adding the subtitle file, Refresh Metadata on the movie (or series) and then enter the video’s preplay page.
On there, select the external subtitle.
Now try again to play it on your TV.
I will test this thanks. I’ll get back to you later
well this part here I won’t be able to do it right. I’m going to test it on a TV that I have at the company where I work, if it works correctly there, the problem will be my old TV.
well I did another test. I had a TV box running Android that I bought a few years ago, I installed PLEX on it and tested the same video that was having problems on the TV, and the subtitles work fine on the TV Box. So I imagine it’s because my TV’s hardware is very old. I will consider buying a new one in the future. Thank you for your help.
From experience, most users on these forums would recommend to use an external steaming device, like a Roku, or Nvidia Shield, or Apple TV.
These are usually serviced for longer than smart TV models. If you like the picture of your current TV, there is no need to throw it away.
