I am really enjoying Plexamp for my local and Tidal sources. I do experience a couple of issues though. I’m wondering if there is anything I can do (or Plex Labs can do) to resolve these.
I run Plexamp on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS into a Schiit Modi 3+ DAC via USB, and sometime my Android phone, but this is mostly regarding the former.
Occasionally, the plexamp player starts at maximum volume, but not always. I never set it to max volume myself, so I’m not sure what’s doing this. Since the track selection opens & plays immediately, sometime there isn’t enough time to turn down the volume control, and it’s quite a BLAST on my sound system. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening? Otherwise, is there something Plex Labs can do to avoid this max volume problem?
This one is probably more complicated. I am disappointed about lyrics with Plexamp on Tidal. Often, there are no lyrics or empty lyrics. On Tidal player the lyrics are generally available for the same album/track…but not on Plex Player or Plexamp. I’m guessing this has something to do with where Plex gets its lyrics (third-party?). It doesn’t seem to be coming from the Tidal API. Is there anything I can do to improve this experience, or is this something Plex needs to improve upon? And while on this topic, I would like to suggest the ability to leave on “show lyrics” across tracks as available, perhaps a keyboard shortcut to toggle lyrics on/off too.
So, other than sometimes being confused by the UX design of plexamp— which just require getting used to—I’m really digging plexamp overall!! Probably the biggest thing it brings to the table for me is gapless playback, which is often hard to come by with Linux players. Thanks!
In theory this should never happen as Plexamp should save and restore the volume. However, there must a bug causing it to reset to the default for some reason, which is 100%. If you can capture the Plexamp logs after this happens, it would be useful to see them.
We get and match lyrics in the cloud, so nothing you can do, unfortunately.
It does stay on for local lyrics, but it can’t for the premium ones as we get charged per lyric.
We’d love to hear feedback on this, as we find it quite easy to use once you learn a couple of app idioms.
Ok, regarding volume, I’ll try and capture the log file…
I understand on lyrics, as far as the monetary part. One thing I see is if there are several versions of an album, remasters for example, Tidal will show the lyrics on all versions but plex/plexamp seems to give lyrics on only certain versions and tracks, from its cloud match, I suppose. Examples I have in front of me are Fleetwood Mac Rumours and the 1975 “white album”. The “original” Rumors has no plex lyrics (blank lyrics, although some message pops up so fast I can’t see—I suspect is says lyrics can’t be found), but the Deluxe and Super Deluxe versions do show lyrics. The “white album” is even more confusing because one version of the album show lyrics only on some tracks. The other versions seem to have no lyrics, just blank lyrics.
No worries on the UI. I’m getting used to it. I’m old and used to old-school layout. I find myself going in circle sometimes between Album, Artist, and Song views. I’m learning the little arrow that expands the options is my friend
