I have a .mov file that seems to have a buffering problem… the little circle spins, I get a second or two of video, and then it spins again, etc. This happens even on a player on the same Mac as the server. I don’t have problems with mp4 or m4v of the same length. The last two play fine. I thought I saw that mov was accepted by plex. Thoughts?
The container type is rarely a problem (unless you have some super exotic or ancient file types). MOV is fine, same as MP4/M4V or MKV. If there’s playback issues, this is mostly about the content of that container.
You can check out the technical details/specs of those files

In addition it can be useful to check how that file is being streamed by Plex – e.g. using Plex Dash or the “now playing” information from the server dashboard in your browser (e.g. if there’s any transcoding going on, if this is handled via HW acceleration or by your CPU…).

@tom80H Thanks! That was incredibly helpful. I played both a .mov and an .mp4 version of the same content. the .mov said Buffering and Direct Play, while the .mp4 just said Playing.

. Any ideas?
Could be a bad file. I’d be cautious with pirated files in half-baked quality that are spreading even before the show is officially aired.
Good advice, but this is from a screen grabber. Thanks for the thoughts.
