Problems with extras

I was wondering if anyone can crack this nut for me:

I cannot for the life of me get featureless / other extras to appear in the movie. They are named correctly. local media is enabled. I’ve tried scanning or swapping agents, and I cannot get the featurette file to show up. Any ideas?

Hi @richard_ourhumanelement_com.

When you say “they are named correctly”, have you used one of the methods in this article?

I personally always use Sub Directories for my extras.

If the files are properly organized, refreshing the metadata for that movie should do the trick.
Would you mind sharing…
(1) an example how the files are named/organized inside your movie folder?
(2) which version of Plex you have installed own our system (also, what platform this is about)?
(3) what agent are you using for that library (or items if you changed the agent)?

In an attempt to debug, I copied and pasted an example, verbatim. I put a file in sub and main. Hopefully, one of them would trigger. nothing thus far. Ive shared some screens below. Do you see a problem or typo that I don’t?

thanks for the reply.

  1. I copied and pasted the example for both ways from the literature into my setup in an attempt to get them to show. nada.

  2. im running Plex web client / Plex media server Version 1.23.1.4602 on Mac OS. the files are kept on the network via NAS

any thoughts? I mean, these look right, right?

Cheers Everyone

I suppose all those files are in a folder named About Time (2013)?
The files themselves look ok.

Given your library is set to use the Plex Movie agent, all configuration is done in the Advanced library configuration (Edit dialog from your final screenshot).
Have you enabled Use local assets on that library configuration?

If the files are not showing… can you double-check if there’s embedded metadata in your extras that might throw Plex off? (on a Mac you can e.g. use Subler to check that)

Yup, they’re all in that folder. verbatim. Local Assets are enabled.
I copied and pasted said extra to a different movie. It pops up fine when I moved it…

Hmm… sounds like something about that movie might have gotten stuck inside Plex.
Have you tried doing a Plex Dance (removing the movie from Plex, doing some clean-up, re-add it following the linked procedure)?

Plex Dance hahah.
Ill run that now.

appreciate the help, cheers

Good catch! I didn’t think of that one…

No typo’s that I can see… So indeed perhaps Plex is just not happy about that particular movie, and maybe the Plex Dance will sort it.

Also, to rule out a problem with that particular movie, you could try just temporarily adding an extra to any other movie to see what that does.

I often use a tiny little video file, call it Other.mkv, and place that in a sub-folder under the chosen movie called Other.

So you end up with…

Movies\My Movie (2019)\Other\Other.mkv
