Problems with new Plex android app

New Plex update (May 2025)
Samsung A54
Android 14

  1. In-file ASS subtitles in mkv files don’t work. Changing video quality has no effect on if subtitles display.

  2. Playing video sub menu “Playback Options” does nothing and freezes the menu so you have to exit the video and play it again.

Same problem with the Android Client

About a week ago both my Android tablets were updated to 2025.14.0, then a few days ago to 2025.15.0. But no change.

One tablet shows the Plex Media Server is offline (it does have the correct name).

Client version: 2025.15.0; Platform version 7.

The other tablet doesn’t show any art. Just the name beneath the entry. If I click on an entry I do get the art for it, but no pictures for cast, just their names. I does play w/o a problem.

Client version: 2025.15.0; Platform version 9.

I too have downgraded (thanks for the instructions)

Plex Media Server: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS; Plexmediaserver_1.41.6.9685-d301f511a_amd64

When can I reasonably expect this to be fixed?

I downgraded mine to client version 10.26. Just too many issues with .mkv files, h265 / HEVC, Chromecast, etc., with the “new version”. Good luck…

Plex app 2025.15.0
Confirm issue 2 in OP, “Playback Options” immediately closes menu and app is no longer responsive to touch (until exiting and re-opening app). Almost as if the playback options screen is completely transparent and covering the screen, but not responding to touch.
Reproducible: yes

Edit: I swiped (go home gesture in Android) to the Home screen, then swiped back (recents gesture) to the Plex app, and I saw the Playback Options screen and could make a selection. However, this behavior is not easily reproducible. About once in every 5-6 tries will I actually see the Playback Options screen when going to the Home screen and back to the Plex app via the recent app menu in Android.

Edit 2: I was able to change the aspect ratio to “stretch”, and now when I try to access Playback Options, I see a black bar across the bottom (not all the way across), almost as if the Playback Options window is shifted down below most of the screen.

Confirmed: I switched to 3 button navigation (instead of swipe navigation), then I was able to drag the black bar from the bottom of the screen. It was indeed the Playback Options window. Something is causing that Playback Options window to be rendered too far down.

Same issue 2 months later and no acknowledgement from devs, apparently.
