Problems with subtitles

When ripping movies with all subtitles and all sound files, I experience that plex has a problem loading subtitle files. Why is this a problem? Sometimes it cant manage to present subtitles at all.

Anyone else have the same experience and anyone knows howe to fix this problem?

I think I’m experiencing the same issue.

I’ve tried displaying multiple subtitle formats. ASS, Vobsub, SRT, PGS. I’ve tried original quality and transcoding. Subtitles aren’t loading with either.

I have Burn Subtitles set to Auto.

Players I’ve tried: Web frontend, Plex app (the new one, not Plex Media Player which also doesn’t work), Nvidia Shield beta app.

Why are subtitles not loading all of the sudden? I’ve checked all the subtitle settings I can think of, server and player. Nothing makes them load for me.

I’ve used Plex for over a decade with the same library since. I’ve never had this problem.

Seeing a few posts in the forums about this in the last few days. I think this is not an isolated issue.

It would seem this is a longstanding issue with a forum thread assigned to an employee that no longer works for Plex.

This may be why it was never looked at.

That is very good to hear. Is this “just” restoring the old functionality or is it the expanded option set with multiple languages in a priority order as described by @Ridley in post Latest update breaks subtitle preferences - #60 by Ridley? I’d like to see a quick fix for this problem, so the former would be nice if that leads to a quicker solution. But in the end the priority approach by @Ridley would be even better - if our feedback is taken into account for the design of that feature. But…

Everyone has been crying out to Plex team members to take a look at this issue for well over a year.

Can someone take a look please?

actually the issue we reported is different. Language priorities are not working anymore. If i set the subtitles to display only for foreign languages (i’m italian so the setting would be "show me english subtitles on movies and shows not displayed in italian), nothing happens.
As a workaround i had to set English as main language and “Always Show” for subtitles, but everytime we watch something not in english (mostly with my daughter) we have to manually disable the subtitles or set them to the ITA-Forced to prevent them from showing IN ENGLISH.
