Thanks a lot for your response Trumpy81 - I got there in the end - the problems was occurring because I had the plex media server software running on the mac too - to deleted and its stopped the problem
Thanks
Ok I spoke too soo . It’s doing it again. Runs well for a couple of days and the is unreachable again. Will send the logs. Finally ripped all my media and made available via my Synology naw and its frustrating that it’s proving so unreliable for such a new installation.
Am I being dumb? I can’t navigate to where you’re suggesting in file station?
Open File Station on the NAS and navigate to: Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server , right click on the Logs folder and select Compress to Logs.zip
I’ve tied file station and via my Mac OS finder and neither find the location where logs are stored. Also tries plex but it can’t retrieve them as it says ‘server settings are unavailable’
Sp I’ve stopped the plex service and then restarted on got the logs from within Plex. Please see attached, really grateful for any help as to why it keeps falling over when the NAS is running well. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-19_21-07-56.zip (7.2 MB) Thanks

Thanks a lot for this Trumpy. I’ve made changes to access and file structure, rebooted everything but it’s still losing connection and the only way to get it back is to stop the service and start it again but it only maintains the connection for a short time. I’ve attached logs again. Would continue to be grateful for support. Thanks
Thanks for this - is the encoding really enough to make it keep losing connection to my server though?
It’s been running smoothly for about 4 days and has not been really problematic again today. Still scratching my head as to whether its an Synology issue or a Plex issue.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-27_14-19-12.zip (10.2 MB)
My Synology is often showing really high RAM utilisation even when it doesn’t appear to be doing anything - could this point to a hardware issue?
Thanks
Tim
Thanks Trumpy - So I’m firing up plex from the NAS directly which opens it up in a browser is that what you mean by Plex Client Apps? There’s nothing else really running on the NAS as it was a fairly new install and all i’m using it for is music at the moment primarily.
RAM is still running at 88% on the NAS and it does seem slow to access files from my Mac.
Hi Trumpy
Its the Plex app installed on the Synology NAS via Package centre. I do also have the apps installed on my Mac, phone and LG tv.
DLNA is enabled.
When I reboot the nas it goes ok for a bit before plex stops again and Ram continues to run high and stays high even when Plex doesn’t appear to be working.
I also have a new problem in that the library isn’t scanning and identifying newly added material and the search functionality is showing no results for my library when i search on an artist.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-02_14-24-21.zip (8.4 MB)
I’ve attached latest logs.
There’s 2Gb of RAM on the Synology DS218+
thanks
Tim
Thanks Trumpy. Updated it again. I’ve been going back and forth with Synology too as feel a bit stuck in the middle at the moment as to which is at fault - synology or plex.
On the search side - any idea why my plex library is not picking up recently added stuff or providing search functionality?
Thanks
Tim
I’d be surprised if it was corrupt given that its newly created? I think that can be a tendency to trot out common solutions to problems in situations like this. As far as I can tell there aren’t even errors in my logs?
Sorry, no I couldn’t see those. I can now though. Thanks, I’ve tried to restore an earlier version of the library file, but now can’t seem to get Plex to open at all.
Hi Trumpy thaanks for your continued patience. So I’ve fixed the corruption issues in the database using sqlite and it does seem to be operating a bit more reliably. However, search is still not working and Its not picking up video files for some reason when it did previously. Any further suggestions on what could be preventing search from working? And are the logs looking a bit healthier now? Its using far less ram on my nas now too.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-07_13-41-56.zip (5.7 MB)
