Problems with the Plex Server application installed on Synology

Hello,

I have 2 problems with the Plex Server application installed on Synology DS218+ NAS:

Problem 1: When connecting to the application from my NAS, I get the following alert message that appears (in red):

“Another device is trying to connect to your Plex account. You should only continue if you know this device and intend to grant it access.(+ the IP address of my internet box that appears)”.

Is that normal? From memory, it seemed to me that there was just an information message informing me that I was going to connect to my NAS (display of the IP address of the NAS) and not a message of alert with the IP address of the internet box.

Problem 2: I installed the Plex Server application on my NAS that can be found in the Synology package center. I have a message that informs me that there is a more recent version. When I try to install this new version downloaded from the Plex download center (Synology for DSM 7, then the version that corresponds to my NAS), I no longer have access to my NAS. The wallpaper is also different (white background instead of black). I tried the installation without uninstalling and by properly uninstalling the application, but the result is the same. If I install Plex Server again from the Synology package center, Plex works. Why is it not possible to use a newer version of Plex on my NAS yet downloaded from the official Plex website?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. This is normal. The message should alert you to a connection being made to your Plex server.

  2. I am not sure what you are doing, but it does seem like you are doing things incorrectly.

Download the Synology DSM 7 > Intel/AMD 64 bit package to your PC.

Open DSM in your browser by typing in http://NAS-IP-Adddress:5000, then go to Package Center > Installed and click on Manual Install (top right of window). Locate the package you downloaded above to your PC, select it and click on Open. Follow the on screen prompts.

Wait several minutes after the installation has completed for the server to restart, monitor the CPU activity on your NAS and when it dies down, then type: http://NAS-IP-Adddress:32400 into your browser to open the local version of Plex/Web. Always open the local version of Plex Web, unless you are away from home.

Go to Plex Settings > Server > General and check the version that is installed, as shown below:

Note: The above image shows the latest beta version. This is only available for those who have a Plex Pass. You should have v1.40.0.7998 installed.

Note: Replace NAS-IP-Adddress with the actual IP Address of your NAS.
