It just boils down to the fact that most local shows here aren’t present in places like TheTVDB, so getting metadata from them is reasonably difficult (trust me, I’ve spent the better part of the last 3 years trying to figure it out!).
You might be in luck here. Plex now preserves EPG metadata when its provider is used (not XMLTV). So it only relies on correct metadata in the EPG, not from another external source such as TheTVDB.
