If it’s anything like the old Gracenote EPG, I don’t have much hope. Even if it’s significantly improved (and I do hope it is!), I suspect NZXMLTV will still be significantly better, since I’m able to get data from multiple sources that I doubt Gracenote/Plex would be able to get official access to
Link to a Discussion that looks promising for my friends over the ditch.
I was thinking the same thing, I doubt very much that it will touch what you’ve put together - so I’ll be sticking with yours
Well, if it’s anything like what has happened in Australia today, you will be impressed and taking back that statement.
I do hope I’m wrong, but the Australian data was always much much better than the NZ data last time we were on Gracenote. It just boils down to the fact that most local shows here aren’t present in places like TheTVDB, so getting metadata from them is reasonably difficult (trust me, I’ve spent the better part of the last 3 years trying to figure it out!).
Like I said, I do hope I’m wrong, because at the end of the day XMLTV is a bit fiddly to setup, and I think that more people should be able to access what I think is a really cool part of Plex, but based on how it was last time - even with significant improvements, I have my doubts about the quality of data.
You might be in luck here. Plex now preserves EPG metadata when its provider is used (not XMLTV). So it only relies on correct metadata in the EPG, not from another external source such as TheTVDB.
My point was that metadata comes from somewhere, and unless Gracenote is devoting significant hours to manually assigning metadata for a relatively niche product in a relatively niche part of the world, they will have to get all that metadata from somewhere (e.g. It isn’t even common practice for most NZ EPGs to contain season and episode information, let alone posters!). But, of course, I could be (and I hope that) I’m wrong and the metadata is to a good standard, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
All I can say, being optimistic may bare fruit. Lets all see in a couple days if all the dropped fruit is rotten. Christmas just might be kind to our Southern Hemisphere friends in the shaky Isles.
I’ve been having a problem for the last few weeks where the Sky guide wont refresh in Plex. When either refreshing or creating a new DVR it downloads exactly 10500 airings then stops, the TV guide stays empty.
Anyone else experienced this? I haven’t been able to find anything relevant in Plex logs but I may be looking in the wrong places.
Not sure what’s going on there. I can get it to happen on my test server and I’ve found some relevant stuff in the Plex log, so I’ll report it and find out if its a Plex issue or a NZXMLTV issue. Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks, having played around a bit more I’ve managed to get it to work by “laundering” the XMLTV file through xteve. Looks like there’s something in the XML formatting that Plex doesn’t like?
How did you manage to do that with xteve? I am having some issues doing the same
@themotherlode I haven’t noticed this FYI.
@shea9872 Sky Guide works perfectly btw. I’m just absolutely so thankful
I use tvmosaic server with quad tuners. I use xteve to pipe this to Plex as it doesn’t support direct yet. Using a standard epgcollector xml file channels and guide come through fine. If I use your one https://nzxmltv.com/sky/guide.xml Everything in xteve work fine. When you set up plex dvr it recognises all channels and epg but when you’ve finished updating the guide initially the guide is empty. If I switch back to my standard epg one it works fine again. I’ve tried a lot of things over several months now. I only just found it was the nzxmltv epg yesterday so that’s a start. Any help appreciated.
What does it say when you click refresh guide in the DVR settings?
Says nothing, you literally see no channels on the guide. It’s blank. Now the plot thickens as sometimes if I only enable 3 or so channels it comes through fine. Very unusual.
I assume others are using it fine for plex. Perhaps it’s how I grab my m3u playlist from tvmosaic and linking in xteve? Although if I use the standard epg collector file it comes through fine. Really keen to use yours though as it’s so much richer and up to date logos etc. (I don’t need to tell you what it is )
I primarily use the Freview guide, rather than the Sky one, so it’s possible that an issue has cropped up. I’ll see if I can run it properly on my computer.
@themotherlode @ferrariman742 @bulldognz
I’ve had a chance to look into the recent issues with the SKY guide and I think I’ve found the cause.
Basically the data source I was using for SKY Arena and Box Office EPG entries decided to switch the date format, resulting in EPG entries for the year 50,000! This wasn’t immediately obvious while doing my usual debugging steps (and because manually reading a 19mb XML file isn’t quite practical!), so it took me a while to find this bug, but sorry about this anyway. The fixed version is now uploaded and it seems to be working fine in Plex on my end.
If there are any issues then let me know
Amazing mate. Let me test it out and come back to you
