I donated to Rasplex some months ago. I suppose that, once people donate, they feel they have a vested interest in the project. When things seem to slow down, they become anxious to see results.
Certainly the developers have other things to do with their time. Family is always more important, for example, than donating one's time to what will likely be a thankless task.
Unfortunately, once a schedule is published, people expect the schedule to be met. Annoying as statements like "there's a whole bunch of stuff to release in a couple of weekends," may be, they are probably safer.

Well... when were ETAs ever kept? An ETA is nothing more than a guess, expect to either increase that time by at least 50-100% depending on the size of the task then factor in unexpected events that happen during someone's life.

Actually, I've run quite a few software projects. We always hit our ETA, unless there was an increase in scope or something beyond our control. But I had some extremely experieced software people, who seemed to be able to make reasonable estimates. If we had missed our ETA by 50% or 100%, there would have been a contest between me and upper management to find out just exactly why.
Conversely, they were being paid, and paid fairly well, and had the luxury of focusing their time on the project,

You must be experiencing what is the exception then.
Thanks for the update! I was really getting concerned. Rasplex is a neat project, and one whose software works extremely well, given that it's only in the .3xx release.
It's a shame, I really like rasplex, but it just seems like nothing is really happening, I think i'm going to have to go back to openelec + plexbmc, it just seems more responsive and more stable.
I have started using Rasplex as my primary Plex client over the last few weeks. I haven’t made a donation (yet) & will buy a case when they surface.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about the lack of updates, take raspbmc for example Sam is only just pushing out a monthly update. We are at the mercy of Openelec & Plex Home Theatre repo’s.
It would be nice if from time to time Rasplex grabs the latest branches from these & pushes out an update for us to test. I believe they are still working towards a 0.4.0 release.
I am certain we will get an update when PHT is properly released.
I have the same issues with large MKV files but in a whole I’m happy to live with Rasplex quirks as it is a promising project.
Just had a quick look and these are the latest releases
Plex Home Theatre - 5 September 2013 - 0.9.10.2.44-245544e7
Openelec - 17 October 2013 - v3.2.3
Rasplex 0.3.1 (4th October 2013 ) is running -
Plex Home Theatre v0.9.9.7
Openelec v3.2.2
So it's only One Version behind on Openelec and two version behind on PHT and it's been less than a month sine the Rasplex Update, I'm sure they will pop something out soon enough
Have a look at the Facebook group. According to that. Dale (project originator has been moving and changing jobs) The project is still going and they are planning to have a release coinciding with PHT's public stable release.
