+1
A repo for the very well know and widely used raspberry pi3 please…
Nearly 2 years and still nothing
agree with @hthighway
just use the plexupdate.sh script… works great…
./plexupdate.sh -Pad for me will download the latest pass version, install it with a progress bar, restart plex and delete the downloaded deb… done…
many many other option flags to choose from to suit the way you would like it done…
plex has already shown its ineptitude in supporting linux… they will just dick it up… just the plexupdate script … headache free
a plex response on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
Please implement!
While I agree with the general sentiment here, the plexupdate script referenced by @hthighway and @dragonmel is more than sufficient for this purpose. I don’t automate plexupdate, since I occasionally hold out on an older server version when issues are introduced, and I wouldn’t add a Plex repo (if it did exist) in any case, because I only update Plex when I know it’s of no consequence to do so (no active recordings), and I would prefer to avoid a careless apt-get update / upgrade blowing up a session or an active recording.
I’m not saying that there isn’t a valid reason to want this, but I suspect it doesn’t suit the needs of most admins as well as the currently available script that can be configured to check for active sessions (DVR checking is apparently in the works) prior to upgrading.
+1 no reason not to have this for paying customers.
yep agreed, should be doable… if they just figure out who can add it.
Doesn’t the repos already exist? Have a look at https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/235974187-Enable-repository-updating-for-supported-Linux-server-distributions
Mind you I am currently in the process of reinstalling my Plex box and will try this method for the first time. Found the link and this thread on Google.
This link also covers the install via repo (Debian-based): https://www.htpcguides.com/install-plex-media-server-on-debian-linux/
I have seen many comments on having a Plex Pass specific repo. I was under the impression that Plex Pass simply unlocked features in Plex Media Server, I am missing something?
Thanks.

With Plex Pass you have access to early releases (now called the “Beta” update channel). The available Linux repositories only allow updating the channel with public releases.

Ah gotcha! Thanks for the info.
agree too, please implement:)
This seems like it would be a really easy win. Not sure why every app doesn’t have a repo for the latest version of their product. especially from a security patch perspective.
So currently we have a repo for public releases, aka “deb https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb/ public main”. I’ve been updating my Plex using it with a simple “apt upgrade” command for months. Now that I’ve tested Plex Pass, one thing that bothers me is that now I need to visit plex.tv/downloads every time to download the new beta deb and then install it manually (that would be, first visit the webpage, then choose my distro version and find the link, login to the server/nas, run wget and then dpkg). Cite the support article:
Repository updating is currently only supported for public releases of Plex Media Server. It is not currently possible to use it for Plex Pass preview/beta releases.
A normal business plan would be Plex Pass subscribers enjoy an APT repo for automated updates while free users could download the new releases by themselves. I don’t know why the team choose to reverse the process.
