I'm using the PS4 App since several weeks and months without any trouble. However since the last update (N° 25 for the minor number) I have a black screen at the launch time. in fact I've to close and reopen several times the Plex app to get the screen to choose which user I wanna use to log into the server.
The previous version doesn't ask for the user and I suspect a trouble happening during this step. Maybe a slow answer of the plex server (under Linux) but I don't really know...
I have PS4 and am facing the same problem. I have been watching for weeks and haven't changed anything to my knowledge. It suddenly stopped working. When choosing the plex app inside PS4, I get the "Plex" splash screen, but it turns black and stay black. If I press "O" button, it shows the word "loading" for a fraction of a second. Like the OP, I also have two users (for me and my wife) that we could switch between using pin numbers. Since this also was the case for OP it may be more than a coincidence, which also points to the user selection screen as a possible culprit.
As I understand it, the OP was able to get past this problem by exiting the app and starting it a couple of times. I haven't tried that.
EDIT: I closed and restarted 7 times. No effect. I press launch, the "Plex" splash screen comes up, then it goes black, then the splash screen showing the client version (2.3.25) at the bottom right, then it goes black and stays black.
Thirded. In order to get it to work I had to uninstall and reinstall the app on both the PS4 and the PS3 in our house. This worked but then had to be repeated each time i had closed the app.
I realised that the problem started arriving for me after I had added another user to my server. I removed this user and now both the ps3 and ps4 apps work fine. So from my understanding this is a problem with the user login (enter PIN) screen.
Please fix!
Other than that, no complaints. Plex is generally pretty fantastic.
We fixed this at the end of last week. Super sorry for the inconvenience!!
This is 100% NOT fixed. Still getting the same endless Plex splash screen error when launching the media server from plex.tv, my local IP or even the public address on the PS4.
