Damn, that’s really disappointing. Guess I’ll keep the Shield.
Just got an update on Plex today and still the same issue. Direct Stream and direct play are not working. So lousy…
Yep, this is still a major issue! I don’t quite understand HOW and/or WHY we’re not seeing more mentioned about this. VERY odd how quiet it is in regards to the topic, actually! This is huge! Not pointing the fingers at Plex, as I’d assume this is Sony’s doing, but come on guys! When my 4K content set to direct play/direct stream is buffering and doesn’t continuously play for longer then 20 seconds it makes me question reliability of things… (Plays just fine on every other device!)
Plex staff, if you require logs or anything else please let us know. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I’d be glad to contribute!
Cheers!
Sad to report that even with the Plex 5.13 update along with the new PS5 21.01-03 update it still stops playing during direct stream.
Hi all. We’re aware the issues some users are having with playback and just want you to know we’re actively investigating them closely with Sony. I’ll provide updates when I have any, but I appreciate your patience.
I’ve given up on Plex for PS5.
Sticking with my Apple TV where it works great.
I’m not sure if there’s a way to escalate the issue to Sony.
Thank you very much for continuing to look at this.
I’m happy to provide logs/whatever…if you need info on it from someone experiencing the issue please PM me.
We use our PS5 for most things media-related, it is really frustrating having to navigate out of that to use my Samsung TV’s Plex client whenever we want to watch something on Plex without buffering.
Any news on this yet? It’s almost unworkable on the PS5. How about a good workaround while you fix it? I pay for plex and it does not work on my PS5 without major hassle
Are you jokers going to answer this? I pay good money for an unusable product
And even better, when you want to try older versions to see if any of them work better somehow, they freaking deny them. $$$ to the garbage
Got the same issue on my ps5. Only real workaround I found was to cast from my phone to the ps5 and then everything works. Still a bit of a bummer though.
Hi there, same issue here with 1080p H265 media. Constant Buffering with PS5 app on original quality, need to lower to have something consistent. No buffering with another device like my phone or PC. No problem with my old fat PS4.
I have a bunch of other bug (crash of the app when change from original quality to a lower, when i select another audio stream or subtitle, crash when i skip an episode…)
The app is buggy for sure. Any news about this issue and the update of the PS5 app ?
@Moussa any updates on this? A few months have gone by still seems to be not working.
Only 1080 seems to work on my PS5. All my files work on my LGTV, Roku, etc.
HVEC 10bit seems like the culprit to me?
Thanks!
We’re still working with Sony on a solution for the buffering issues some users are seeing, and we expect a fix with a future PS5 firmware update but I don’t have any further details to share right now.
I have a similar problem. On my side it’s not “buffering” that much but it’s quite pixelated. I have shows in 1080p yet they look like 480p. Everything is fine and settled properly on my side.
This is very frustrating.
Unfortunately the PS5 firmware update released today is not going to be the one to fix the buffering problems.
Hi,
I’ve a very similar problem using plex app (5.17.0) on my PS5.
Every file I try to play no matter if it’s 480p, 720p, 1080p or 2160p is being transcoded to SD
(see Attachment)
On my FireTV Stick and my LG TV all works perfect… Direct Play no transcoding!
Only the PS5 Plex app doesn’t work
The settings in the should be ok… all is set to best quality and direct play / direct stream is allowed.
Does anyone has an idea what is going wrong?
Thx in advance
I’m having an issue with direct play/stream on ps5 regarding DTS audio. The files should be direct playing, as the ps5 supports mkv. However, all files are direct streaming which I guess isn’t a huge deal, but any files with DTS are also transcoding to AAC causing extreme buffering. DTS should be able to at least direct stream and not be forced into transcoding. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!
I just got my PS5 and am starting to find this with some files. They load fine on the PS4 and my Samsung Smart TV app, but I get the spinning wheel if I try to play it on my PS5. I found that if I paused it and bumped the quality down one notch it would work. Reading this thread I found that by unchecking the DIRECT PLAY option in the SETTING allowed it to work. I have my PS5 connected with lan to my network, not wifi so I was expecting to be able to direct play.
Google free public DNS and use these settings for your router or PS manual setup rather than automatic. This might help. If it is a local Plex server defrag the disks and do a performance tidy on the pc. If it is a PS you can’t do a tidy but ensure that the Plex app is access the Plex server and the Plex server content has its files stored using a PS or PC native video and sound format - otherwise the Plex app is processing to convert to a common format. Finally checking with your broadband provider what your upload and download bandwidths are with respect to what you paid for and ask them what your contention ratio is. This ratio is some like 5:1 being great and 10000;1 or higher being bad. It is the ratio of how much the ISP provider has oversold their physical actual capacity at the telephone exchange nearest you. The IPS always sells to more people that a 1:1 ratio. If it is a bad number time to switch ISP. Cheapest broadband you can get is normally a sign the ISP is physically over using the bandwidth they actually have and for users it results in slow performance. Hope this helps.
