Can confirm what @flutters said, the new PS5 update did nothing to improve this issue. Many files (1080, 4k, 5.1, etc) wont play. Yet on a different tv with an Apple TV 4K, the same file plays just fine. Either its the PS5 or the Plex app. This is pretty ridiculous.
@Moussa Can you confirm if the update you mentioned as potentially fixing the issue was the one that dropped recently, or if it is a different one in the pipeline?
new update just today. version 21.02-04.02.00.02-00.00.00.0.1. The issue remains.
@Moussa can we get an update? its either the PS5, or the Plex app for PS5. the same files play fine on other hardware.

I can also confirm this issue, even after the newest update.
Also the Xbox app has network issues. Seems all game consoles versions of Plex. The LG Smart TV version doesn’t have this problem while it has much less beefy hardware and less networking hardware than game consoles.
Hello? Why is your app on PS5 completely worthless? it literally doesn’t work 90% of the time. Now i need to go buy a different streaming box because your app sucks? Ridiculous
December now, new update on the PS5 last night and still having constant buffering and playback error issues. Lowering the transfer speed actually makes it worse. Not sure how that’s even possible.
PS4, Samsung TV and my Hisense Roku TV apps all work flawlessly.
Same issue, 17.3GB file 750mbps transfer speed. And only like 35ish on my phone. And not like I can leave it that way - it will just crash after some time.
When will the issue be fixed, from the look at this thread it is almost a year

This is very frustrating. Video files should excel on a device like the PS5. How come this has been allowed to go on for more than a year? I have 1GBPS down and even a 720p movie buffers every 2-3 seconds.
I’m also having this issue. To play the same files that play on all other devices fine (like my PS4, iPads, iPhones, Computers, TVs), but PS5 fails. I have to set the app to down-res to 720p and a low bitrate just to play. Sometimes, if I restart the PS5 it’ll work, but not always. The device is also hardwired. I’m not 100% sure it’s a Plex issue and not a device issue, but so far… it leans more towards a Plex issue.
Are there any further updates on this?
I’d like to be able to use my PS5 for playback as it’s consuming the only HDR capable port on my slightly older TV.
I have no issues with playback of any files through my AppleTV, same switch/network.
As reported above the transfer speed for whatever reason on the PS5 peaks upwards of 700mbit then drops and peaks again. Correlates with issues of constant buffering and playback issues i.e. frame lag.
Am using that latest server Version 1.25.3.5385
And whatever the latest Version for the PS5
Pretty much been two months with no response, is anyone actively looking at this issue?
@Moussa This hasn’t been getting better, even after this large new release. Are you guys not going to even address us or the problem now? Looks like the majority on this thread has paid the company money for Plex Pass, the least that can be done is to let us know what’s going on. Updates. Not just going silent.
Edit - The only way I can get things to play without issue is to lower the the quality to 720p 4Mb/s. Pretty bad on a 4k screen. But Ps4, and other devices work fine. It’s only the PS5 that falls short. Shame that’s the only one that can play on my main TV.
Having this buffering issue with multiple friends on their PS4/PS5’s. At this point, my friends have had to swap to other devices to at least watch something. Please fix this and/or provide some sort of feedback!
Hello Guys, anyone has solved this issue as it seems Plex employees are ignoring it. I used to solve the issue by enabling/disabling direct stream and direct play however some movies don’t work no matter what I do. Appreciate any feedback.
Nope, it’s still an issue and from what I’ve seen, no-one wants to acknowledge or actively work on it.
Pretty abysmal support considering a lot of people in this thread have coughed up the money for a plex pass.
It’s like posting support help into an abandoned GitHub project.
I have stuttering (best way I can describe it), which I can sometimes resolve by restarting the server before trying to play something. The stuttering doesn’t occur on other player clients, only PS5.
