I’m a bit confused. What are these notifications for, or more importantly, who are they for? Seriously, no joke. Are they all for the admin of the server?
I suppose there are a couple of useful ones for server admins…
Database Corruption and Database Backup (and possibly New Devices)
New Content is probably more useful to Shared users than admins, although could be useful for those where content is automatically added.
Not sure about On Deck notifications tho…
I like the corruption part but not the backup. I don’t need it to tell me that a backup was made because I know backups are made(every three days if I’m not mistaken). Though, failure to create a backup. That would be a useful notification!
New content, maybe… Still… May not be all that useful if not sending the notifications to a mobile device cause the hubs tell you of new content.
I suppose one could use this as a means to not sit back and wait. Do what you do in your day and when the content is automatically added(DVR, Radarr/Sonarr), you will be notified.
EDIT: Though my level of comprehension is coming from someone who doesn’t have a DATA plan so I don’t fully grasp the entire scope of the possibilities. And because of this I don’t think I would benefit from mobile notifications
So are these notifications settings exclusive to the server owner or is this a team effort. Meaning the owner must enable and shared users must enable.
Cause looking at a few of these post saying 100 notifications is crazy. I sure wouldn’t want to spam my family and friends with dozens(or 100’s) of notifications.
It has to be enabled on the server and then shared users must enable on their device and then select what notifications they want.
Knowing my few shared users (and their somewhat limited tech capabilities) I have to doubt many (if any) of them will actually bother.
And yep 100’s of notifications to family and friends would be (to put it politely) a bit annoying…
I am not quite sure why it did that in my case. It did it once when I first enabled notifications and then this morning I got another mass notification.
Can you tell us what type they were?
Were they all about new content or was it all types from new content to users with new devices to others??
I also wonder if Plex will use the same logic they do for the server. Display 1 episode when a single episode is added… Display a season when multiple episodes are added.
I have deleted them now, so not sure, there were certainly new content notifications, but did not look in detail, so there could have been others. (although I have notifications for on deck and playback turned off)
But I do recall seeing at least some were for content that was not ‘new’
And yes I do wonder what happens if you add a whole show, how many notifications you will get.
cuz for example if you add whole of The Simpsons, I hope that is not over 600 notifications…
Your family/friends will hate/block you, lol!
Though… Now I wonder if notifications will be pushed if libraries are excluded of dashboard. In the case in point Plex for Roku 6.3.5.5679 HOME not working
If the notifications are tied to libraries and libraries are hidden from dashboard… Hmm, wonder.
But really I’m gonna be more fascinated by the posts that creep in complaining about someone’s mom/dad/other embarrassing person getting notifications of new p.0.r.n content.

You can specify the libraries which to get notifications from on your device (and shared users can only select the libraries they have been granted access to)
But all libraries (you have access to) are selected by default…
I can just see the scenario… your sitting in an important meeting with phone on the table and all of a sudden notifications start popping up on your lock screen with your latest pron… ![]()
So I just tried adding 8 episodes of a show, and got 1 notification that 8 new Episodes had been added.
Well honestly, I thought this was something completely different. I painted an entire picture of a would with server-side messages.
I’m not sure how this feature will help me personally(no data plan). And not to many of my share users will get much from it too. I think(depends on the default setting).
Most of my family/friends are not tech savvy so if it’s an option they must also enable then it may take years for them to get the full potential of it.
But it does give me an idea. I do wonder if I can use this new feature to inform everyone of server maintenance by way of adding a dummy movie. I’ll call it Daily and Weekly Maintenance (1972).mkv and use this as the poster.
That should get their attention.

Yes, I was going to make that comment, that Server Side Messages (Something emby has had for ages) would be so much more useful than this new push notifications feature.
It’s only been a feature request for, how many is it, 6 years now…
yes it would be nice if there were options for something at least as simple as, or similar to
- ‘server shutting down (unavailable)’
- ‘server started up (available)’
additionally
- ‘server offline (no internet)’
- ‘server online’
Those would be handy…
Although I still think enabling and configuring the notifications is still asking quite of lot the less tech savy users… at least mine anyway
well to be honest, it is probably more geared for admins than less savy users in the first place
ok well I guess it is better stated,
- it is probably geared more for savvy users
and for those that aint, well I guess they won’t miss it will they ?
and if they do, then I guess them new kids saying applies: git gudder
Yeah, I’m good either way. I thought it was something else but found out it’s not. No biggie. I’m sure I won’t get much use out of it but it will please me that others will. I may come back and revisit it in 5-10 years. Perhaps then I enjoy the labor of the Plex team.
Never mind …
