Put same tv/movie in multiple "folders" so that I dont have to duplicate them

I would like to place… say a Christmas movie in the folder with the right initial for it… as well as another folder called Christmas… without having to copy/paste the same video. If this feature exists… I am unclear how to use it… but ideally I should be able to select one or more “tags” associated with a given video… or a folder in the case of a series of TV shows in one folder… so that I can easily find them from plex app on my devices. That way, if I want to watch Christmas movies… I can just select the tag Christmas and all the movies show up, regardless of where they are stored.

Isn’t this the “Collection” functionality?

WEll shoot… you may be right. Now I gotta play/learn that. It didn’t stand out to me so I might have missed it.

Do you just put ALL your movies/etc in a single NAS folder… and then add to collections?

That’s generally the idea. Plex is offering a number of features to distinguish certain movies inside a big library – you can e.g. filter/sort, create regular or smart collections… There’s rarely a need to do that by assigning items to different libraries (as you pointed out… that can give you trouble with duplicates).

As an alternative you can also assign those Christmas movies a dedicated Genre tag. Personally I like the approach using collections better.

I tend to group movies by folder by alphabet just to make it easy to find. Also movies that I want to put in collections I group in folders by the collection name. So there may be a folder in the “S” folder called “Star Wars” or “Star Trek” or “Sherlock Holmes” or “Spiderman”. Then I put all those movies in there. When I get to PLEX, I view by folders and that makes it easier to find them and select all in a folder to add a group tag.
