QNAP: Local server not available after update

Server Version#: QNAP QTS 4.4.3.1400
Player Version#: 4.40.1

Yesterday I did an update to my QNAP TS-253A. Before the update my PMS was working fine but after it said my home server is Unavailable. The other servers located on my plex account (not local) are working fine.

Before I updated my QNAP my PMS was working just fine.

I have tried to stop/start PMS. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling PMS. I’ve tried reverting back to the previous version of QTS. Nothing has worked. Any thoughts or guidance?

Which version of PMS are you using?
You only stated Player version and QTS firmware version

This is the current PMS version 1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896

Please provide a zip with PMS debug logs

And since on 1.19.5.x, also: look into your PlexData share for the logs

I am unable to find the logs. I downloaded the qpkg that shows Plex as a share folder, but it did not show any new share

Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the permissions to give your QNAP username permission to see it.

After you do so, it will then be visible in FileStation.

I see the folder in the Shared Folders menu. However the PlexData has no contents 0KB and the ‘edit shared permissions’ is grey’d out. Any other ideas?

That’s being fixed in 1.20.2. I’m sorry you’re impacted .

For now:

  1. Delete the shared folder
  2. Recreate the shared folder, anywhere you want, with any permissions you want (at least your username / admin)
  3. Attempt to restart Plex. Even when it fails, the linkage is established.
  4. Now you have access via FileStation.

That was a fix for the share folder. I’ve attached the logs that were inside. I hope this doesn’t cause a problem, but I removed and reinstalled Plex hoping that would solve the problem.

Here are the logs

download_2020-08-26_08-08-57.zip (134.2 KB)

The share, once created, will remain until you delete it. I leave all administration up to you.

Of the two logs,

  1. Plex Media Server.log – doesn’t contain anything more than:

If you’ve uninstalled and reinstalled – did you restart your QNAP?
I ask because something is stuck and still running,

Yes. I’ve restarted a few times, both having Plex installed/uninstalled and stopped/running. Do you have any other ideas?

Anything else, short of factory reset that I can try?

Sorry for the delay responding – Things have been hectic for me.

Do NOT factory reset the NAS.

Go to App Center and make certain Plex is in the Stopped state
Restart the NAS

Do you have the PlexData share available to you in Shared Folders?
If you do, and it’s visible in FileStation (your username has access permission), please let me know so we can effect some soft-reset of your Plex installation claiming.

Great! I’ve already restarted, making sure plex was stopped. I do have access to PlexData now yes

Now start Plex,
Wait 2 minutes (this delay is important)
Stop PMS

Using PlexData/Plex Media Server through FileStation,

Please create a ZIP of the Logs directory and attach it here.
I’d like to see what happened during that time.

I appreciate the help. Here’s the logsdownload_2020-08-27_16-12-23.zip (140.7 KB)

What do you have on your QNAP which is pointing to / using port 32400 ?

I’m not aware of anything using that port. I’m still a bit of a noob with this machine, so I’m not even sure how to investigate where it is.

I had forwarded 32800 on my router, but deleted it just now.

How can I check which program is using 32800?

Update: I had turned the OpenVPN on for that port hoping to fix remote access sometime along the way. It seems to have fixed the problem! Thank you so much!!

Just for clarification, the server now isn’t recognizing my TV Shows folder, could this be because it is updating my entire library?
