I’m updating the situation, which is getting even stranger… Almost by chance I discovered that with the plex app for iphone as a client, the conversion works perfectly! On pc or mac, both from browser or with the app, I get errors or the movie still doesn’t start… Of course, I haven’t solved all my problems, but it’s better than nothing!
I add that I have a second plex server on a windows pc, with nvidia hardware acceleration and everything works perfectly, even with browsers or apps, from the same pc.
I have done some tests with quite surprising results.
Hardware encoding works perfectly on
iOs → app
TvOs → app
iPadOs → app
It does not work at all on:
MacOs → app and browser
Windows 11 → app and browser
All this with the qnap server.
With a same version of plex server on windws 10, which however manages the same files via samba shares (they are all on the qnap NAS), everything works without problems.
This is for posterity and for people who love mysteries (or conspiracies).
