QTS - 5.0.0.1858 - Nvidia GPU failures

Server Version#: 1.25.7.5604
Player Version#: 4.69.1

Hi everyone, I have problems to transcoding from plex in my qnap

  1. NAS Model: TVS-872XT
  2. Nvidia Card model: Nvidia PH-GTX1050Ti-4G
  3. QTS version: QTS 5.0.0.1858
  4. Version of NVIDIA_GPU_DRV: 5.0.4; NvKernelDriver: 5.0.0.1858
  5. What you see in the Control Panel:

I have reviewed the thread (QuTS / QTS - 4.5.2 / 4.5.3 - Nvidia GPU failures) but it is impossible for me to downgrade the nvidia drivers due to incompatibility with the QTS version.

The GPU is always at 0% even when plex is transcoding with hardware.

The driver seems to be working properly with CAYIN or multimedia console, however, Plex still doesn’t use the nvidia card to transcode.

I already opened a ticket to qnap as a result of the thread: QTS - 4.5.4 - Nvidia GPU failures but they, after several months, refer me back to you.

The option to downgrade is not feasible: this requires a complete QTS downgrade without the possibility of updating later. Is there any update for correct transcoding for QTS 5.0?

Thanks you.

@Altairmikoto

Do you realize the CPU in your NAS is capable of HW transcoding without using the Nvidia?

You have an i5-8400t

If you are careful and not use PGS/VOBSUB/DVDRIP (image based) subtitles,
you can easily transcode 500-600 Mbps of video with it.

As for using the Nvidia in QTS 5, We don’t have any issues with the drivers or the 1050-ti

I have seen complaints about certain QNAP models not properly passing through where PMS can detect it.

The problems I have had transcoding with CPU is that QNAP starts to take more and more consumption until it completely blocks the entire system only recovering when restarting it. This looks like a qnap resource management issue.

Thank you for the answer. I will talk to QNAP again to see what else can be done.

Best regards
