QNAP Server not allowed

Server Version#:1.40.0

Hi everyone, I just installed plex server on my new Ts-464. New plex account, but when I try to connect I get the “not allowed” error. I tried both from the appcenter and by manually installing the .qpkg
But I always get the same error, like the server is “deaf” and I can’t figure out where the problem is.
can you help me?

First… you don’t need a separate Plex account to run a second/new server.
In order to connect to a newly installed setup, you’ll need to open it via its local IP address from within the same subnet (e.g. http://[QNAP IP]:32400/web).

If you’re working with multiple accounts, there’s probably some mixup as you’re already signed in with a different Plex account in the browser you’re using.

it was understood that everything is new. both as a server and as an account. if I connect with [QNAP IP]:32400/web it always takes me to the “unauthorized” error page.
I tried clearing my browser cache but nothing changes.
I previously had an old account which I deleted and created a new one. I don’t want to have made any mistakes

When you open the hosted web app… are you already signed in with one of your accounts?

What details do you get if you open http://[QNAP IP]:32400/identity? I’m particularly interested if it says claimed="0" or claimed="1".

There’d been no need for that, but it should still be possible to get it to work.

I have already logged in from the web browser and currently only have one account.

tells me claimed=“0”

Are you on the same subnet when opening the bundled web app (http://[QNAP IP]:32400/web), using the actual local IP – no host names etc.?

yes they are in the same IP network

Is your home network configured to use a private network ip range?
Also… do you experience the same using a different browser or with content/ad/… blockers and other browser plugins disabled?

no ip limit… I used edge, chrome, safari, on one pc and two different macs

The question wasn’t so much about if you’re running out of ip addresses. It’s actually about if you’re using a valid RFC 1918 ip address designated for private network usage.

What about browser addons/plugins?

I’m using a 192.9.150.xxx address

I don’t usually use any plugins or addons

That’s not a valid ip range for a private network and it’ll give you trouble when attempting to access your server „locally“.

Even changing the IP address does not change the result. same problem

Did you change the actual network ip range or just the address of the server?

I changed the IP address of the NAS

That’s not going to cut it.
This is about running your server within an RFC 1918 compliant network AND accessing it „locally“ from within the same subnet… meaning you need should set a valid IP range on your router, applying it to all devices — specifically the NAS and the machine from where you’re trying to access it in order to access/claim it.

Since I’m not the one managing the network, is there “official” plex documentation stating that non-compliant networks are a definite problem? I have to prove this to whoever manages the network

Here’s a guide on what networks are supported.

You should also be able to use the „Private Network“ Wiki article I had posted above.
