QNAP TS-251B fails to update PLEX

4.5.1.1480

thanks.

QNAP will be awake for me to call in a few hours.
I will call them directly and see what to do next.

I am escalating.

:rage:

Best we were able to determine (known by QNAP) at our level:

  1. Earlier versions of QTS 4.5.1 had trouble reading signed packages
  2. Many applications would install but not show as started when they actually running
  3. Other applications fail to install.

If you are willing, there is something you can try.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Open the PlexData shared folder and migrate to it
  3. If you don’t have a ā€œPlexDataā€ shared folder (I don’t create it anymore but will use if present), create the shared folder and restart then stop PMS.
  4. In PlexData, you will find Plex Media Server . This is what we want

The procedure:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. FileStation: Navigate PlexData -> Plex Media Server
  3. Highlight all files & directories
  4. Compress to ZIP or tar file (we are making a backup)
  5. When complete, move the backup to a safe place.
  6. Now uninstall PMS – completely removing it from QPKG
  7. Manual reinstall PMS again but do nothing with it

If it is now successful – then we can confirm QPKG/QTS had corrupted itself but is now clear

If still unable to GUI install, you need QNAP to fix it.

To restore PMS

  1. Install GUI or manual via SSH as before
  2. Stop PMS
  3. Go back into the PlexData -> Plex Media Server
  4. Delete all you see in there (this is junk data we will not use)
  5. Copy your previous ZIP/Backup file into that folder
  6. UNZIP and restore your previous backup
  7. Everything should again appear as it did (you have ā€œPreferences.xmlā€ as a quick verification marker)
  8. Start PMS

I have done this previously. Didn’t even backup, no need to, and the only thing I could install was the app from the QNAP store, the .16 version. Trying to install the package downloaded from plex.tv fails everytime.

I was just able to reproduce an error on my TS-128A development system.

Please confirm for me this is what you see?

  1. Download PMS 1.20.5.3600 from plex.tv/downloads
  2. Manual install the QPKG
  3. It shows a few percentage points of progress (2% for me)
  4. It now hangs forever

Observation:

  1. When the HD stops chattering, hit F5 to refresh the QTS display.
  2. Observe PMS 1.20.5.3600 is now installed and running.

QNAP is aware of this problem and is a Firmware problem on their end.

You can escalate yourselves by submitting Help Desk trouble tickets and target App Center.

It’s a little different. Here’s a screen recording of it

You need QNAP’s help.

I recognize that layout. QPKG has an internal problem.

They need to manually remove the [PlexMediaServer] entry

On a side note. Installing from scratch via CMD I get this error on first try:

Error in command line:the argument for option '--serverUuid' should follow immed iately after the equal sign

They should remove it from where exactly?

QPKG keeps track of the installed packages in a file.

The procedure they need to perform is a ā€œManual Uninstallā€ from the command line using the text editor.

Remove the (1) from the filename, and try again

Same result unfortunatelly.

Darn, since QTS used to fail, when uploading files with a space in it :frowning:

Should I try shortening the name of the package? Maybe there is a limit on the path lenght?

Shouldn’t be the case, but it’ll not harm to try

Nope, no luck.

This needs QNAP tech support .

There is a problem with the QTS software internals.
