QTS Hardware Acceleration

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1709

Anyone having any issues with hardware acceleration on QNAP? Was working fine until this most recent server update as far as I can tell. I no longer see the HW on the transcodes in the dashboard and my cpu has been running at about 100% with 1 or 2 streams opposed to the normal 10%

Known issue.

PMS 1.17.0 requires Nvidia GPU drivers 418.30 (at minimum).
QNAP ships 410.x in NVIDIA_GPU_DRV package.

I’ve been in contact with the Project Manager.
A task was dispatched to their Engineering team to update to 418.30 or (preferably) latest.

Ah, bummer. Hopefully it doesn’t take them long to roll it out.

You can back down to previous by installing on top of until then and use what was existing prior to the full update

Yea I’m rolling back to 1.16.6.1592 now. Thanks for the help, Chuck.

Any time. Wish I had better news.

Hm, the rollback didn’t resolve. Still jumps straight to software transcode.

Grab me the DEBUG logs please?

Old version may not have HW decode.

Here you go. I tried two 1.16 versions and had the same result so I’m assuming something isn’t getting overwritten. I have tons of previous versions though if you can point to a specific one that will get me fixed.

Well I wen’t back and tried every 1.16 version that I had and none of them seemed to resolve.

one last update here, i restarted the entire server and i guess that fixed it. i dunno how this stuff works! so it’s running 1.16.6.1592 now and looks fine.

Would you mind doing that ONE more time?

Except this time: VERBOSE OFF and DEBUG ON

We never use VERBOSE unless trying to find a device-PMS communication issue.

What’s happened, because the buffer is so small, the information I need has been pushed off the back end. Logs are only 26 MB deep.

After setting DEBUG on and VERBOSE off, Restart PMS so we have a clean delineation.

you want me to upgrade it back to 1.17, then take it back down to 1.16 and run a software transcoded stream?

No need to change version.

  1. Set DEBUG logging ON
  2. Set VERBOSE logging OFF
  3. Restart PMS
  4. Stream again for 30 seconds
  5. Stop playback
  6. Wait 30 seconds for logs to settle
  7. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
  8. Attach ZIP file

Chuck, do you know if they’ve updated this yet? I can’t find anywhere within this thing to tell me the actual driver version.

plex needs at least 418.30 of the nvidia drivers
I’ve been out and will be out for most of this week.
just poking in here a bit .

Please followup with Qnap and ask them about eta?

As an update Chuck, I submitted a request to QNAP for my Quadro P2000, and they said the following:

“According to the Developer the Nvidia Driver Update is released with Firmware Update. QTS_4.4.2 will add NVidia driver 418.56 version support, but QTS_4.4.2 firmware have not been announced yet. Currently ETA is 11/21 but that maybe for Alpha or Beta but no confirmation on Official release Date. Once released your NAS would inform you about the Update so please update the Firmware.”

I received an update from the QNAP Project Manager last evening:

  1. NVIDIA_GPU_DRV has been updated.
  2. NVIDIA_GPU_DRV update will be released in QTS 4.4.2 which is about to release.

QNAP will make a link available to us to test first. I’m going to check it out and verify everything is working again then report here.

Has there been any word from QNAP on this? Kind of crummy that we’re about to lose TVDB items because we’re stuck using 1.16.
