Question about Atmos 5.1.2 setup

Hey Experts,

I need some help. I have recently setup a 5.1.2 atmos theater room. I have a Pioneer VSX-1131 receiver. About a month ago, I downloaded a couple test files and it sounded great. Recently, they do not work. I get a ‘h4 not supported error’. I have noticed I can switch it to 5.1 and it plays. It won’t play if I switch it back to 7.1. I am not sure if it is a plex issue, receiver issue, or I have done something wrong or if a recent update broke something.

Is my 5.1.2 setup considered 7.1 when selecting audio in Plex? I would think so…

Thoughts on what is going on?

Thanks in advance!

What clients are you using?

Chromecast 2nd gen. Is that what you are asking?

Is your chromecast plugged into the receiver or the tv?

Plugged into the receiver. Receiver to the projector.

I just wish I knew if it was my receivers fault, chromecast, or if I really do only have a 5.1 system…

According to Pioneer’s own site, your receiver is definitely capable of Atmos and DTS:X… So I wouldn’t classify it as a compatibility issue, it has the decoders in it to handle what you’re trying to do.

In this instance, I would start replacing cheapest -> most expensive grab a device that you know outputs Atmos or DTS:X… My recommendation is either a Firestick 4K (Only $50 You would lose DTS support though) or an Nvidia Shield TV. ($200 but is the “ultimate” android TV Device, many people here praise them.

Chromecast does not support pass through of Dolby Atmos.

That error could mean a codec issue. Not sure why as PMS should transcode that to EAC3. Definitely need to see your PMS logs. Also the XML for that file.

That sounds hard to get ha ha

I bought a Roku Ultra and that fixed the issue. Apparently Chromecast 2nd gen is the victim. Thank you everyone for your help.
