I’m planning on setting up my own NAS using Freenas with Plex Media Server. I have it currently installed on a virtual machine so I can have a look at it before building the NAS itself with Plex. I’m planning on getting a Roku Express one of my player. I also have a Google Chromecast available, however, I noticed that when playing using Plex on my android, it is currently limited to a few minutes.
If I subscribe for a Plex Pass:
Will this limitation in the Android app be removed?
If I have guests over and they plan to watch using their mobile devices, do they need to purchase the Plex app separately?
What about the Roku Express (not familiar with this device), will there be a fee to be able to fully use it with Plex?
Also, is there a limit to how many devices I can sign in using my account? Like for example, I get 4 Roku Express and sign in using the same plex account. Then let’s say I have 1 mobile and 1 tablet which I sign in using the same plex account.
No, there is not. But remember that you will lose the ability to have separate viewstates and there is also a security implication amongst others etc. If your friend on the tablet watches Spiderman half-way-through, then you will see it on your Roku. If you then say, “Wow, spiderman is a cool flick. I’d watch it again” - your friend will lose where he left off and the movie will be marked as watched on his tablet. The security is probably the worst implication though since by using only one login (the admin login) all users will have full access. You will really, really have to trust everyone using it!
Remember though that a Home user should be used with some caution too. The admin user will only be protected with a 4 digit code and that isn’t too hard to crack either. Again, share with people you trust.
