Music libraries were removed from the plex mobile app after the app rewrite. Generally I’m cool with this because I agree that plexamp is the superior experience for music, and certainly on mobile. However, I have been wondering if we will see a removal, or shake up of our music libraries on the other apps. Will the web, desktop, or the HTPC apps see music library access removed or modified in the future?
Currently the only way for users to edit the media info or item matching of music items in the library is through the desktop or web app. If music libraries are removed from these apps, will plexamp get this sort of editing/matching control?
I’m asking these questions from my own speculations, and hope that none of this is received as criticism. I just want to know where the ship is heading. As a minor point I’d also like to say that I would disagree with the removal of music libraries from the HTPC app. I use that app sometimes to play songs.
The other day Elan confirmed that Plexamp is not ever coming to Google TV, so it will eventually not be possible to play music via Plex on that platform. That’s the only new information I have seen in long time.
I’m hoping they leave the web app alone, seems like they will have to unless they just remove our ability to make playlist and edit metadata in the ways it allows. I suppose that is possible, though.
I’d be ok with Plex Music becoming its own system separate from the video if it allowed the developers to fix certain things that are “impossible” to do due to how things were initially set up. If it gave us the ability to have multi-album artists or read embedded mood tags, etc, then I’m all for two different Plex instances.
As far as I know they have not made any statements about the future of the Plex for Windows and Plex HTPC apps.
They have said they intend to unify the UX across all apps, which suggests that the desktop apps will, sooner or later, look like the mobile apps that we just got.
But nothing is official yet as far as I know, so I’m not gonna freak out yet.
This is completely ridiculous. Went to play my library on my apple TV only to find out its been removed. Anyone know any apps that take advantage of the music library in plex that works on apple TV?
