Since I’m new to Plex have a question regarding my 3D and 4K movies. Would like to know if there is a way to put my 3D movies and 4K movies into Plex to catalog them but without the actual MKV file? Since Plex doesnt do full 3D and there is no way to rip my 4K movies, would like a way to catalog them and then add a note for playback to use the actual disc in my Oppo player. Hope this makes sense

Awesome thanks! Just to confirm, I should be able to use Notepad for the text editor correct?

Yes, that is sufficient.
If you need a better text editor for inspecting the Plex Server logs (notepad.exe doesn’t support Linux.style line feeds) or for converting SRT subtitle files to UTF-8 I can recommend the excellent and free notepad++

Wanted to follow up since it didn’t work for me. I ended up downloading notepad++ and after opening it, I typed in, for example, Kong Skull Island (2017), then saved it. Then when to where I saved it, right clicked it and selected Rename and added .mkv at the end. After adding a folder and putting the file in there, I added the folder to Plex and scanned it but came back with no results.
Thanks again for any pointers on getting this working!
And Kong Skull Island (2017) was not only the text inside the file but also its file name?
Kong Skull Island (2017).mkv

That might be the problem since inside the file I only had Kong Skull Island (2017) and left off the .mkv. Will try it again this afternoon and let you know if it works. Thanks again
No, the .mkv is only suposed to be in the name of the file, not inside it.

ok then I did it correctly then. Once I change the name to add .mkv at the end should it still remain a text file? Sorry for the inexperienced type questions

Of course it stays inside like it was.
Changing the filename is just a renaming operation. It doesn’t turn in magically into a video file.
Into what kind of library did you put the file?
Ok figured it out! Yeah that would be nice if it turned into the video file!
Since you have been a tremendous help, wondering if you can answer another question regarding 3D movies. Can Plex handle Full 3D? I know there is side to side and top to bottom but my TV does full 3D.
Thanks again
Plex is not “aware” of 3D.
If you have a side-by-side or top-bottom video, Plex will treat it like a regular 2D video. It is up to your client device to decode that and to activate the 3D display mode.
With “real 3D” you probably mean ‘MVC’ support.
As far as I know, some Plex clients support it, some only decode a 2D picture from it.
And some refuse to work with MVC at all.
You can only test this with the devices you already have.
