Forgot to enable collections - retrospective create?

I recently rebuilt my server however after scanning my movies library I realised I’d disabled collections. I have asked it to create collections where there are 2 or more movies in the collection and I have hit ‘refresh metadata’ for the entire library (clicked OK on the warning message) but after a full metadata refresh it has not added the collections.
Is it possible to add them to collections retrospectively or do I need to recreate my library again from scratch?

Try ‘Scan library files.’ I think that’s when it does the collections. If that doesn’t do it, you might need to rebuild it.

Refresh Metadata should have done it. Check the tags for the movie you think should have been put into a collection and see if the “Collection” field is locked. If it is, then this won’t get updated with a refresh. Remove the lock on these movies and refresh each one and see if the collection gets created after refreshing the second one.

Thanks man. I’m just scanning my music library which is taking an eternity… will scan again once it’s done.

Thanks for your reply.
Below is Casino Royale which should be in the ‘James Bond’ collection, but isn’t after running ‘refresh all metadata’. Padlock is black and not orange. All other films in library are like this:

EDIT: If I do a metadata refresh manually on this film then it doesn’t add the collection

Hmm. That should work. I just tested.

  • added 2 James Bond movies to a test folder
  • created a new Plex Movie library pointing to test folder
  • set auto collections to 0
  • library shows 2 movies, no collections
  • change auto collection to 2
  • refresh all metadata

Can you try with a test library like I did?

For whatever reason it has started working.
I’m not sure why my previous attempts to refresh data failed but I set it running last night and woke up this morning to all my collections back.
Persistence was key!
Thanks again
