Questions about replacing existing files

Hi there. I am in the process of replacing some of my movie files. Scenario:

File name “Movie” exists in the library and is a 900MB file.

I replace “Movie” with a new version of it that is the exact same file name, but is a larger, higher quality version that is 1.7GB.

It looks like the metadata has stayed the same, which is great. My question comes from not necessarily knowing what all the different pieces of metadata are, but my concern is there is something in there that will somehow keep Plex playing the 1.7GB version at a lower quality (the quality of the 900MB version).

Again, I may be just missing some basic understanding of what the different types of metadata are, but I couldn’t find anything in here that lists out what all the metadata are.

Thanks for any insight!

After replacing the file, navigate to the movie’s details page and do the following:

  • Refresh metadata
  • Analyze

This is done from the options menu at the top-right (the three vertical dots):

You can also access these options by hovering your mouse pointer over the movie’s poster in the Library view and selecting the three vertical dots in its bottom-right corner:
