Quicksync not always working

Server Version#: 1.15.0.659
Player Version#: 2.27.0.949

Intel HD Graphics drivers: 25.20.100.6444

I’m testing a new pc running Windows 10, i5 8400, and NO gpu (fresh install of everything).
I’ve Hw acceleration enabled but quicksync is working randomly.
Some files use quicksync properly (hw text on the status page and I can see on the server the igpu usage under 3d/Video decode) other files ignore the igpu and just run software transcode, I don’t understand what’s causing this, I’m testing h.264 files… sometimes even the same video file start with quick sync… I close it… and the second time I try to play it… the server uses software transcoding…
I tried to save a couple of log files, one with quicksync working and another with quicksync not working

NOQSV Plex Media Server.log (359.4 KB)

QSV OK Plex Media Server.log (561.0 KB)

And here is another log, same file of “NOQSV Plex Media Server.log” but now quick sync it’s working! …
There’s an errror in my first log (NOQSV…log) is:

Feb 18, 2019 14:53:22.676 [1564] ERROR - [Transcoder] [h264_qsv @ 04636e00] Error during encoding: device failed (-17)
Feb 18, 2019 14:53:22.676 [6160] ERROR - [Transcoder] Video encoding failed

Feb 18, 2019 14:53:22.738 [9020] DEBUG - Streaming Resource: Changing client to use software decoding

QSV ok Same file Plex Media Server.log (443.3 KB)

I’m seeing the same problem. Did you ever manage to fix your issue?

Most probably connected to following issue: 1080p-HW Transcoding dont work @ Intel NUC

TL;DR;
Use Plex with Ubuntu(Linux) to workaround this issue.
