Randomly Changing Tags

Really would like to know the overall quality of plex keeps getting worse.

Now for some reason whenever I add a soundtrack to my music it ■■■■■■■ feels it necessary to change the Artist from “Various Artists” to some random bullshit that has nothing to do with anything. WHAT THE HELL??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Plex doesn’t usually just decide to do anything…
Usually this comes down to one of two options:

  1. that’s how the release is listed on MusicBrainz.org
  2. your library is configured to prefer embedded metadata and that’s the data stored inside your files

As for “random bullshit”… would you mind sharing what you’re experiencing if it goes beyond the album artist being set as Various Artists?

Stuff like this tends to happen if you have “Prefer Local meta tags” activated and you have your files not strictly separated into this folder structure:

/Music
   /Album Artist
      /Album Title
         01 - TrackArtist - TrackTitle.ext
         02 - TrackArtist - TrackTitle.ext
         ...
   /Various Artists
      /SamplerAlbumTitle
         01 - TrackArtist - TrackTitle.ext
         02 - TrackArtist - TrackTitle.ext
         ...

All albums which are stored inside the folder Various Artists must have “Various Artists” as value in their AlbumArtist meta tags. Even if you have only one track in there with a deviant AlbumArtist meta tag, it can mess up all albums which are inside that Artist folder.
Do also add the AlbumArtist tag to albums which don’t have this meta tag at all.
