Raspberry Pi 3

Curious minds want to know if the speed increase is worth it from a mildly overclocked RPi2 to a stock RPi3.

Honest opinion, not really.

Scrolling through libraries is slightly faster, everything else is just a snappy as an RPi2.

The built in WiFi is a no-no for Rasplex, unless you only have very low bitrate SD media, average speed is 39Mbps!

The built in Bluetooth is useful if you have a BT keyboard, Rasplex does not support any other Bluetooth devices such as audio.

Also have an issue with the RemotePi board at the moment on the RPi3, and I am in contact with Matt at MSL Digital regarding this.

Sorry to sound so negative.

Regards

@robertsig , I agree with @NedtheNerd
Don’t notice real differnce on Plex, and very disappointed on Bluetooth. I wanted to use Plex as an external audio device.
If I find some time, I will do some tests with KODI and local attached storage.

OK, got it. Maybe in the future Rasplex will be optimized to take more advantage of the RPi3 hardware. My biggest pain point is FF/RW on remote media, but I believe that is a limitation of real-time transcoding on the remote server.

Correct, shame really, maybe Plex Inc can address that issue in the future.

FF/RW could be changed to a timeline scrub using BIF files instead of a real FF/RW, like Rasplex uses now. It’s already in use by other clients.

[EDIT]
Just made a feature request for timeline scrubbing. https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/issues/471

Maybe stupid question: but is there an easy way to see that Rasplex is running on the RPI3?
If I go to system -> about, it still marks as “architecture:RPi2.arm”…

I can’t be the only person who would like an all-in-one little box solution… can I?

Given that Plex is fundamentally designed as a client-server solution and architecture, what you’re asking for is rather nonsensical with Plex. No, you’re not the only one wanting such a “solution”… but I don’t see that solution being Plex. Plex is designed to be something entirely different and perhaps isn’t the product for you.

It’s important to use the right tool for the job and not over-engineer (and over-complicate) your solution. It’s like being in love with convertibles so wanting to widen the doors and pave the floors so you can use one to get from the living room to the kitchen.

Just to be clear… I love plex. I’ve got a plex server in the house. I’ve got clients galore. I travel and stream, but… unfortunately… not all hotels, WiFi, etc. are created equally. In times like those it would be nice to have a separate selection of stuff that can just be streamed “locally” to itself. ****

As much as I love and rely on Plex… I gotta say – it’s hard to figure out what their vision is sometimes. Sometimes it just feels like it’s a series of half baked anemic features (e.g. Photos, syncing, sharing)…

So when you say it’s nonsensical… I’d say it’s no more so that the random picture support, the insecure sync and sharing support, the off and on casting support, the completely forked UI, etc.

Besides… just because it is a better overall design to be client-server doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be installed together.

What is so wrong with Sync? It has worked fine for me the few times I’ve used it. But I’d really like to know what’s half assed about it?

On paper it should fit all your needs with bad wifi/no internet at all etc?

Hi everyone yesterday arrive my raspberry pi 3
But i have problem to start up
Led red remaining always on after power whithout charge os and output hdmi
Always no segnal
I try to change os on my sd card sandisk 16 gb
But nothing thanks
For power supply i use one power of tablet 5v

You need to make sure you are using the right image, there are two, one for the RPi1 and one for the RPi2/3 (select RPi2 in GetRasplex).

Regards

I want put ubuntu mate
But dont start image

I also try noobs
But nothing the Green led dont go on
And hdmi are always not signal

As you are not going to be using Rasplex then I suggest you visit the Raspberry Pi forms for help on installing Ubuntu or Noobs.

Its normal to not have signal video on hdmi
Whithout put os system?
The output signal will be after booting it?

Yes, but please follow the link ned provided you, the user base is much greater and they can help you better. I hope you get this fixed.

I posted in another list, but this looks like a better place to post. I have my 1.0.3 running on my RPi3 and it seems to run fine, but every 20 mins or so the screen goes black for 2 seconds and then comes back. I replace it with my RPi2 running 1.0.2 and that problem does not exist. It happens in the exact same place in the movie every time, and does not happen with the RPi2 at all. I am not sure the issue, but was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I was watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and the one time I noticed it was right as they were leaving the car at the parking garage, just before Cameron gets out of the car. I just am not sure why it would happen on the RPi3 running 1.0.3 and not the RPi2 running 1.0.3. I am hesitant to upgrade my RPi2 as if it starts happening it appears I can’t download 1.0.2 again. In any case any suggestions would be welcome.

Thx!

Doesn’t do me much good as 1.0.2 does not function on the RPi3…

I guess I could attempt an update to 1.0.3 on my RPi 2 and see what happens.

You were referring to the RPi2 in your post, as can be clearly seen.

Actually I said this in the opening which is my problem:

I posted in another list, but this looks like a better place to post. I have my 1.0.3 running on my RPi3 and it seems to run fine, but every 20 mins or so the screen goes black for 2 seconds and then comes back.

However I suggested I might upgrade my RPi2 to 1.0.3 to see if it has the same problem as my 3, but I was afraid too, since i did not know where I could get the copy of 1.0.2. Since you pointed out where I could get that, I can now at least test the RPi2 and see if it does exactly the same thing, however, still does not solve my original problem listed above and in my original comment, which pertains only to my RPi3.
