Thanks Dale, and thanks for speedy response! Will re-download and I’m sure a donation will be coming your way!
I can’t get the Network to work. Not on LAN or wLAN
Any way to check what version is running whilst in Plex?? I want to make sure it’s updating ?
Sit tight, automatic updating is encountering some issues (some reflashes may be needed).
You can check by ssh'ing in and running:
cat /var/log/autoupdate
Really? Which revision.
Try rebooting (though this shouldn't be necessary).
I also have problem with wifi: wifi adapter should be compatible. I bought this one:
http://thepihut.com/collections/networking/products/usb-wifi-adapter-for-the-raspberry-pi
If I check with lsusb I can find it but I tried various configuration and none of them is working,,,
Can anyone do a video of rasplex? I would really like to see it in action before buying a pi again. Ive sold my old unit because XBMC with plexbmc didnt satisfy me really.
+1 for Plex on raspberry pi
Awesome little device, I have raspbmc running well on it now but as much as I like xbmc its just not as slick as plex
Plex just rocks.
If this comes to the rpi it will make my plexpass SO worthwhile and I will be renewing when time comes… B)
edit: oops should have read the rest of this thread
lol
Right, it now seems to have the wifi working for some reason. But is incredibly slow, my library however is pretty huge so will give it some time. Am on the latest one 0.19? Other then that so far looks amazing. Just need to get the speed improved and this will be brilliant!.
On further playing around with this, I think it might be due to the usb wifi. Anyone got one they can recommend for this that will work OOB?
mine should work OOB:
the system detect it (i can see it with lsusb and ifconfig) but i cannot configure it in the rasplex section...
Can you tell us the SSH password? Both, openelec and rasplex don't working.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NztKPxmjJ5g that is a really old version, it's improved a lot since then.
I'll be making a video once it's beta quality, but right now I'd rather focus my time/efforts on development.

Are you guys *sure* you are configuring wifi correctly? The dialog is pretty ■■■■■■, so I can understand if not.
A few things to try:

SSH in, and run "iwconfig", should list wireless interfaces (usually wlan0)

Under "network 2" in wifi dialog, set interface to "wlan0", or the interface detected with iwconfig

Enter SSID and password

Reboot
Wifi suppport is still a little janky, and not where we'd like it to be at for a beta.
One thing to note is that some wifi cards will draw too much power for the Pi, and make the second USB port unuseable (making it impossible to control it via keyboard or usb remote). The solution to this to use a powered hub, but I'd like to come up with something better eventually.
I use 0.1.17 for my every day usage and find it to be better than my 2000 dollar macbook as a plex frontend with only a few minor issues and speedbumps.
0.1.17 should be faster, as 0.1.19 has debug symbols and no optimizations. We are using .19 for profiling purposes to figure out how to speed things up.
Make SURE you are using a class 10 sd card. Caching should be very fast with a class 10 (and apparently even a class 6?), but other types of SD cards (especially older ones), will be write-constrained and can even cause the system to deadlock.
Another thing to try is using the installer to flash both a USB stick and an SD card with the same version of rasplex, then modify the bootloader to point to the SD card (will be making an installer option for this). Many users have reported this to greatly speed things up.
The installation media you use makes a huge difference.
Also, remember this is alpha - many improvements are yet to come. We just started profiling.

I tried with ifconfig and the result is the following:

of course it's still not working... is there a way to configure it via terminal? where is located the interfaces file?
Hi Dale, again thanks for response. I will downgrade to 0.1.17 and give that a try tonight.
To configure the Wifi, I set Network Tech. to WLAN and Interface to wlan0 then put in the ssid and pw, saved and rebooted. Nothing
I use Samsung SDHC 16GB class 6 cards on both of my raspberry pi’s (One as a plex environment, one running rasbian wheezy).
I will also check settings using ssh, before was just using the physical interface.
I have my Pi connected to the back of my tv via a powered usb port, and can control the pi through my tv’s remote over HDMI, making it just seem like part of the tv, which is brilliant! This set up has worked fine before on previous set ups using XBMC, pyplex and raspbian. All I have hooked up to the pi is hdmi, power, sd card and usb wifi.
Thanks again
Tom
EDIT: Correction on card type.
Also for some reason I can’t use the restore utility in disk utility on Mac to install this to the sd card (have tried .17, .18 and .19) don’t know why, works via terminal.
