Raspberry Pi

According to this you have an ip on the wireless interface, and everything is working...

I am running into every-time I play a 1080p movie I just get sound ,sticks on menu. I force hardware decoding and lose dts sound . 720 p works perfect and anything else I throw at it!

Seems stable otherwise Cant wait until we get channel support and hd backgrounds back. on version 0.1.17

I had sort of assumed it had as the clock was correct. But it’s so slow and won’t see anything on my local network. I can only get something to display by logging into myplex. When I say it is slow I mean the wifi speed not ui.

This is a really vague bug report but since I moved to the OpenELEC builds rasPlex seems to be REALLY slow on my network. (I'm running wired. The wifi seems to disconnect a few seconds after boot.)

While it's powered on it also seems to drastically slow down the network usage of other computers...

Sorry for the vagueness of this but if I can provide any logs or try anything to help narrow it down it would be great! Thanks.

Unfortunately this is a known issue for which there is no real solution. Whenever a file plays audio, but no video, it is a sure sign that the problem is lack of codec support for certain types of files on the raspberry pi. You might be able to get it to play by purchasing a codec for the raspberry pi foundation, but no guarantees.

However, fortunately, there is a workaround!

If you are running PMS on a reasonably decent computer, you can just let it do the transcoding for you. This won't work if you are running PMS on a crappy NaS, as they don't have the horsepower to t/c.

To do this, under network settings just check "force local transcode", and set a desired bitrate according to your preferences / power of your computer.

When playing transcodes literally every file type should play back. If you choose to do this, ensure you are running a recent version of PMS as they have dramatically improved it's transcode capabilities, while reducing the CPU cost.

How very bizarre. Are you tech savvy at all? If I told you to run wireshark to monitor the packets would you know what I meant?

This may sound pretentious, but have you tried rebooting your router? All of the bizarre network related problems have been traced back to crappy routers. If your router came free with your ISP, chances are it's a crappy router.

I personally use a linux based firmware (tomato) on an expensive, industry quality cisco router, and never have experienced any of these networking issues.

Is your RPi on a different subnet than your server? GDM should always detect PMS if they are on the same subnet. The fact that it was able to find it by logging into myplex is a pretty sure chance that this is just a problem with your home networking configuration.

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!

So, i read about this on /r/cordcutters and couldn't believe it!  I've had my rasp since they first shipped and i'm on my second one now.  I was using XBMC before and was generally happy with it, but recently i switched everything else i have over to plex.  I somehow missed this thread and didn't know anyone had been working on it.  I'm happy to report that the install went flawlessly and it's working really well.

My setup at the moment:

Raspi model B (512MB)

100mbps wired eth

HDMI out for audio and video

Default options in rasplex

So far, most TV shows seem to play fine (either SD, or 720 HD, no surround)

HD Movies with surround audio however are having some issues. (I havent enabled transcoding yet, i'm testing native first, then i'll do that.  My server: 4 core ~3ghz AMD proc, 8GB RAM, plenty of disk space, pretty much only used for plex)

Also, i do see the slowdown that was mentioned in the tv/movie menus, but i haven't really let it finish caching everything yet, so i'll report back on that later

Thanks again for this!

EDIT: I'm on 0.1.19 btw.  Is there a changelog posted anywhere?

Do you find the 512mb version runs it better? I've also had my pi since release and it's been pretty much useless with xbian/raspbmc as i've been waiting for this as well and i was interested to know if the extra ram makes a difference?

I have the same problem - I thought I was going crazy :)

My home network completely died (or became very, very slow). I rebooted both my AirPort Extreme and all my other wireless devices several times, but only when I turned off my Pi (running version .17) did my network recover.

I could reproduce this several times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NztKPxmjJ5g that is a really old version, it's improved a lot since then.

I'll be making a video once it's beta quality, but right now I'd rather focus my time/efforts on development.

Thanks, that helped me a lot. will order another raspberry pi now :)

If you guys can get this to run as fast as  open elec xbmc ...this will be a no brainer,   Why isnt Tobias helping with this?  There are millions of pi s that would benifit from this

Dale and the other Devs keep up the good work!  I will sending another donation Friday

I am experiencing this issue as well. My router is a Cisco E3000 running Ddwrt. If I leave the rpi connected in wifi on overnight my network slows to a crawl for my other laptops and smartphones that is connected to the same network. I can reproduce this every time.

The wifi adapter is a Edimax nano Usb adapter.

My 2nd rpi is connected to Lan and doesn't have this issue.

I'm going to have to get this build up and running on my rpi.  I have been running openelec on it with the PlexBMC plugin, which makes it a pretty solid plex client.  However, this would be pretty cool to have the PHT skin and make a rpi a more official plex client.  I'm curious if this project would ever be scalable to other systems like the current openelec project.

Nice work guys, only bought my RPI last week, stuck raspbmc on it and was happy enough but I'm a long time plex user so missed the slickness of it (not fussed about all the customisation and plugins xbmc offers really). Now have rasplex up and running and I am one happy man :-D

Keep up the good work!

Took the words right out of my mouth, same feelings about PlexBMC plugin

after running a Win 7 HTPC with PHT for a while. Even in Alpha this absolutely rocks.

Donation on its way!

The closest thing to a changelog right now is the blog at http://blog.srvthe.net, or github
