Looks very promising but sometimes I have to reflash the sd-card after powering down. I get a "no space left on device" error after when I boot. And the CPU load is pretty much constant at 95-99% when it idles in the plex menu.
I'll throw out my boxee box and make a donation once this gets a bit more stable :)
Sorry, i can't really compare the 512 model to the old one performance wise. The old one is permanently installed in a project at the moment and i can't easily get at it to run some tests. I just got the 512 about a week ago and this is the first thing i've put on it.
Your work so far on this is awesome and I can't wait to see where you take it. Just wanted to share my experience trying to flash an SD card and run on the Raspberry Pi 512mb model with the latest image last night. I flashed the card on my MacBook Pro and didn't have any issues with that process. In fact, it was the easiest, fastest OS install I've tried so far. However, once I booted up on the Pi, I had some strange issues either related to the skin (I was using Confluence) or the keyboard setup.
I was able to navigate around the interface just fine using the keyboard and could press enter and esc to jump in and out of various menus, but I was unable to enter a few key menus that cut my experience short. For example, I could enter the system "settings" menu, but I could not get to the "profile" menu, the "system info" menu and I couldn't get the exit/logout/reboot menu either. As a result, I couldn't test any of the video functionality because I couldn't set up the video sources in the profile menu. I didn't have a chance to try a mouse with the system, so couldn't tell you the result on that yet. Just wanted to give you the heads up on that behavior.
Thank you developers, testers for so great work. I am announce that from day I can help you too. I don't know if get enough time to help develop something, but I can help with QA.
I have installed latest build from sourceforge, but GUI is not so "instant" responsive as LongChair show on the video. Should we wait for another build?
Also, I have some issues with Bluray (remux) playback. It lags every 3rd sec. But, I have good playback for 720p.
If you want more info, I can give you all logs from device.
I'm looking very forward to this all being worked out! Honestly can't wait guys. Keep up the good work! As others have noted though, I think the wifi is a bit buggy at the moment, is there anyway we could help i.e. generate a log or something?
What wifi adapter do you use ? I have a edimax like Martin and Am experiencing the same network slowdown .
I also have the Edimax and have the same slowdown issue. However, it is also just as slow if I unplug the Edimax and have the Pi on a wired connection.
Do not worry, as i was mentionning, this was for tease. We have noted some inconsistency in the gui performance.
This video illustrates a case where the performance is very good, but i have no clue why i had this "blessed" performance.
When i rebooted th pi I went back to much less smooth navigation especially on the fanouts.
But we are currently investigating this issue.
Just wanted to show and keep a record that the PI should be capable :)
I'm getting similar speeds to your video LongChair using 0.1.19 even with the global side show enabled - fanouts load almost instantly and the GUI is very smooth. I'm looking forward to the introduction of hi-res images :)
