Rasplex 0.5.0 - Issues and Feedback

Do you know if this version supports AirPlay Mirroring?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

RasPlex doesn't support AirPlay mirroring, the current AirPlay support for audio isn't working very well currently either.  Hopefully after the Helix merge the AirPlay for audio will work correctly again.

I just did a clean flash of 0.5 on my Rasberry Pi.  I'm seeing two issues, both audio related:

1)  I cannot play files with TrueHD audio.  Attempting playback results in an unknown audio format error even if I set a bitrate that should force transcoding.  I can play the same file in 0.4.1.  While it still doesn't recognize the audio format, it initiates a transcode, allowing the video to play with audio.

2)  Files with FLAC 7.1 audio tracks do not show the audio track.  I tested with a remux of Oblivion which has an 7.1 audio track. On 0.4.1 it shows the FLAC audio and plays the video, but there is no audio (just silence). I also noticed weird issues with FLAC 7.1 and PHT.  On the latest version of PHT, it will play 7.1 audio if you set the audio output to 7.1 or 2.0, but if you set it to 5.1, it plays back at 4 FPS.

So, Dolby TrueHD works in 0.4.1 but not 0.5, which is a regression. FLAC 7.1 didn't work in either, so it's the status quo. FLAC with 6 channels or fewer plays fine.

Hi,

There was a bug with our update server that would make it possible to update backwards to 0.4.1

The bug has been fixed. If you're currently stuck on 0.4.1, you may need to either reflash a fresh 0.5.0 image (simpler), or if you want to preserve your settings etc, you can remove the update manifest as follows:

1. Install PuTTY on windows for an SSH client (linux and OS X have an ssh client built into the terminal). You can download PuTTY here, and here's a tutorial if you've never used it before. On linux or OS X, just open a terminal and run "ssh plexuser@your-pi's-ip-address', and enter 'rasplex' as the password as below.

2. SSH into your raspberry pi using the username "plexuser", and the password "rasplex". You can get the IP address of your Raspberry pi from "System Settings", or from your router.

3. Remove the manifest with this commands:

'su' - type rasplex again to become root

'rm /storage/.plexht/userdata/plexupdateinfo.xml'

After removing this manifest, you should be able to correctly update to 0.5.0 and stay an 0.5.0.

Our old update server was falling over from the load of all of the update requests, so we had to switch to a new update server for this release that is substantially faster and more reliable, but unfortunately this bug was a side effect of the switch.

This bug should only be possible if you manually selected the 'prerelease' channel and requested an update, anyone still on the stable channel shouldn't have gotten the update yet.

I'v very sorry for the inconvenience here guys, I hope you enjoy the new release and don't have any more issues updating.

-Dale

Thank you, this seems to have worked.

However, I now have another problem.

I have a number of .ts files from my PVR that played fine on 0.4.1 but won't play under 0.5.0. The toast says 'unknown audio AAC LATM, Transcoding' (it has always said this) but then I get message saying that the file was not found and that it failed to play. The same file plays fine in the Plex iOS app and also the latest PHT in OS X.

Just want to make sure I did this right. I downloaded both zip files from github. The .img and the update. I put the .img on an SD card and everything works fine. I then dragged/droped the contents from the update zip file into the SD card copy/replacing anything that conflicted. Does this make sense? How do I apply the update?

Hello,

I have the following issue: The "original" image of version 0.5.0 from the github is not booting properly !?

The Raspberry starts and I see only hieroglyphs on the screen....thats it.

I thought it was a problem with the resolution as my "test setup" said something about 4002x1204.

-> So I gradually changed the standard resolution via the config.txt file.

Reducing the resolution helped and Rasplex started.

After some more research I realized; not the resolution is the problem the "default rasplex config values" set in the config.txt are wrong!!

Anyone else having this problem !?

Cheers

UPDATE: Ok. Found the cause:  hdmi_drive=2 is somehow not compatible with the monitor I use! :-/

Hello,

I have Rasplex running but quite a few problems/bugs:

1. When selecting "System Settings" the screen first switches to the "Media Collection" which I also reach, when pressing "right". Then a little later the new window comes up.

2. Also I want to use the LiveTV Option. As far as I understood I have to switch the Skin, than select LiveTV enable it, than install the TVHeadend AddOn....

This is not working! :-( I can switch the Skin to "confluence", although it takes a while. When I than try to enable LiveTV. It only gives me an "empty window". And when trying to install an AddOn nothing happens at all......When trying to exit the "preferences" the system freezes and thats it! :-(

3. Shutdown is also only working from time to time! ? :-(

Is there any other way to be able to have Plex + TV ?

Because than I will go back to OpenELEC+PleXBMC+TV, as it is running pretty smooth.....even though I would prefer the look and feel of Plex! ;-)

Cheers

Don't really understand what you are doing, just use GetRasplex on your PC/Mac and then select the version you want - 0.5.0 - select your SD Card and click on Write. When finished eject the SDCard from your PC/Mac, insert into Pi and power up.

OK, now I understand. I though my rasplex have a problem.

It will great if it will be said in the first post, for noob like me  :)

Ok, so I have the TV remote controlling Rasplex through CEC, which works great… Until I change inputs on the TV while Rasplex is in idle. When I switch back to the Rasplex input, the remote no longer works until I reboot my RPi…

Any ideas?

After updating to 0.5.0 on two units, I seem to be having issues signing in to PLEX.

Issue 1: Every once and a while, I'll go to "System Settings" -> "Connections" and nothing will be listed...

Issue 2: After assigning a static IP address to the interface, I don't seem to be able to access any of my content, only the "Search" option appears

Issue 3: After changing the IP assignment back to dhcp, it instantly signed into PLEX and accessed my media.  After reboot, my content shows up but it's unable to sign in to plex (going to "System Settings" -> "Connections" and Disable/Enable the eth0 interface is a work around for this, but often after leaving the "Connections" screen... Issue #1)

Issue 4: Upon boot, I'm only asked for my "master" account PIN, no other user accounts are available.  If I set up a user account/library for someone else, how are they supposed to access it?

Issue 5: After switching to a user, I am unable to do anything but "Switch User" on the left pannel.  What if I wanted to Reboot/Shut Down?

I also have noticed this

I think you've misunderstood the purpose of the update file. This is intended for use only by those who are already running an older RasPlex version, and want to update this version without losing any settings or precache data.

Furthermore, the normal method for updating an old (but still recent) RasPlex version is to use the internal update method, as controlled by the settings in the submenu Preferences > System > 'Software update'.

Using separately downloaded update files is only necessary when making an update offline, and still wanting to preserve old settings and precache data.

When installing a full image file of the most recent release (currently 0.5.0) there is no need to use any update on top of the full image install, until yet another new release has been made.

Long story short:
The 0.5.0 update package is NOT intended for use together with the 0.5.0 full release image.
Such update packages are ONLY intended for use with an already installed older RasPlex version.

No. the default is not wrong, but it is chosen to suit normal TV sets.
(The default display unit for most home theater systems.)

UPDATE: Ok. Found the cause:  hdmi_drive=2 is somehow not compatible with the monitor I use! :-/

The default value 2 is suitable for normal TV sets, while PC monitors with DVI-HDMI adapters normally need the value 1. Some of them may also need additional directives.

I've heard that the STK1160 is no longer included in this version of rasplex which means hyperion lightpack stuff doesnt work. Any chance of this being put back in at some point? (If im wrong about this dont hesitate to smack me down!) :)

Issues 1,2 and 3:  What type of connection are you using - WiFi or Ethernet? What server version are you running?

Issue 4: If you have set up other user accounts then a list of these are presented at boot and you can select any of them, if you haven't you will only be asked for the PIN if you have assigned one to the main user (Home admin), if no PIN assigned then the Home Screen is displayed.

Issue 5. I believe that this is intended use, stops non Home admin users playing with settings, suggest that you ask for further clarification in the Plex Home forum https://forums.plex.tv/forum/151-plex-home/ and/or check the Plex support documents for Plex Home.

Thanks Ned, I just saw that so I will give the upgrade a try later on. :)

Issue 1,2 and 3:

Two Pi's, both connected via Ethernet (1gig) to a Cisco 3750 (C3750 Software (C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE9, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)) doing DHCP.

Server: Version 0.9.11.7

Issue 4: I have 4 users setup, 2 are "Managed" and two "Existing" (one of those existing, being the "Master" account).  I'm wondering if the only user that shows up is this user, because of my issue 1,2 and 3.
