For users updating from 0.5.1, we recommend you re-enable ffmpeg AVIO under Preferences -> Playback -> Advanced Video.
This update brings OpenELEC 5.0, which includes 2 years worth of updates from previous versions which were based on OpenELEC 3.2. This will dramatically improve driver support for a variety of devices, including USB wifi cards. This was a huge effort, undertaken largely by Kwiboo.
Notably, we've finally fixed fast-forward and rewind. You should be able to fast forward and rewind up to 32x now!
We've also added support for Hyperion! You can now use ambilight systems powered by Hyperion with RasPlex. Just select 'enable hyperion' from the Services submenu in System Settings. You can customize your Hyperion config by copying your config file to /storage/.config/hyperion.config.json. If you don't already have an Ambilight setup, you should check out http://lightberry.eu/.
We're already hard at work on 0.6.1, which will hopefully include support for hifiberry and other hifi audio addons.
Thanks for your patience everyone! As always, please report any bugs you find to tiny.cc/rasplex-bugs.
I was just checking to see if there was any new this afternoon... and now it's released! Thanks for your great work, i'm installing now! Kudo's! Looking forward to fast forward all my movies! ;-)
RW/FF working great. High bitrate videos with AC3 no longer have stuttering audio. Job well done. However i think i've stumbled across a bug and not sure if i should report it here or on PHT forum.
Bug Report:
Description: Error starting video from beginning when cinematic trailers enabled
Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable 1 or more cinema trailers under preferences->playback->extra
2. Go back to main PHT screen
3. Choose a video from On Deck
4. Press Play
5. In the dialog that pops up, choose "start from beginning"
Expected Result:
Video starts from the beginning
Actual Result:
Dialog box pops back up and asks to resume or start from beginning. If you keep hitting start from beginning it will just continue to show the dialog. If you hit escape to dismiss the dialog you will get a message saying media failed to playback.
Thanks for the new release! Everything that i use works.
Kwiboo build based on openElec 5 i used until now had probably more fluid UI, but it maybe just placebo or something and i also did not finished precashing after clean install, so that probably has huge effect to. Sometimes i just got blackscreen when i wanted to use kwiboo build and needed to reconnect power, so i hope now everything will be perfect :D, but it was rare anyway and also might be caused by my display or avr, display is more likely.
Anyway picture itself seems more clear - do you think that it is for real or (also) placebo? - ie. different drivers or does rasplex do some post processing (so far i only compared 720p upscaled to 1080p).
I'm new to RasPlex and to Rasberry Pi in general, so forgive me if I get the terminologies wrong.
Had 0.5.1 and I noticed all my 5.1 surround sound movies were being converted into stereo. When I installed 0.6.0 I noticed only AC3 audio worked perfectly (full 5.1 sound). DTS and AAC 5.1 don't work properly, I get all channels except center (so no voice). Just to ensure it wasn't a hardware issue or plex server configuration issue I used my laptop instead and everything works perfectly in terms of AC3, DTS and AAC 5.1 sound.
I think you're on the right track with 0.6.0 I just need my center channel to work. Please help!

Make sure you check AC3 and DTS capable receiver in the preferences, as well as selecting 5.1 for the sound (PCM) output (this gets used when the software decoder is used for things like AAC, MP3 etc).

Have just followed your steps to try to replicate this. On both the RPi1 and RPi2 choosing 'Start from beginning' plays another trailer and then starts the movie from the beginning, as per expected result. Suggest you check you installation.
