RasPlex 0.5.1 released - issues and feedback

Just wonder whats the difference between this and Kwiboo? Haven't tried his one out, just asking? :)

Just upgraded my Pi B+ and now I always get the low power rainbow of despair. Same power supply and cable I used previously with no issues. I also get an error at boot about a nonexistent directory named hotplug

Thanks for that. I suspect that 0.5.2 will have even more Pi2 optimisation included. Thanks for the comparison.

Kwiboo is now part of the Rasplex team, there wasn't time to get all his patches into this release, however he is hard at work merging his patches into Rasplex and AAC5.1 audio will be in the next release.

Regards

Thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to the future of rasplex, which seems to be very bright :).

New installer freezes for me on OSX Yosemite...

Edit: 3rd time lucky!

I can't understand this? No blame for the good work rasplex team, but how can a not (for the rpi2) optimized distro run even faster than the optimized rasplex distro? The official takes full advantage of the new hardware etc. and is indeed slower?

Rasplex is still built on OpenELEC 3.2.x, the version Kwiboo compiled was on OpenELEC 5.x.

As mentioned above, Kwiboo has joined the Rasplex dev team now, an OE5 build of Rasplex is being worked on :)

Is this the answear for my question? The "engine" behind is still old and not that speedy by running 3.2.x. An upgrade of rasplex running on 5.x will boost it like Kwiboo?

Great work, but am I the only one experiencing very high CPU usage of plexhometheater (20-80% just idling in the menus). I also seem to loose contact to the Plex server every few minutes. Playing videos stutter.

This is the same regardless if using wired or AC-wireless.

I am on a regular Pi B+. Earlier versions of RasPlex ran fine, OpenElec runs fine as well.

On the Pi2, all is running brilliantly! Very impressed! Those donated beer tokens were worth it! Nice work guys!  ;)

My Feedback:

Windows installer worked great (after I realized I needed to select Pi2).

This thing runs 10x better than my old Pi B.

Networking was picked up immediately with a Rosewill RNX-N250UBE wireless adapter.

Using a 1150 mA USB adapter, I get the low power rainbow square every 5-10 seconds... but seems to play okay besides that.

Overall 10/10. Would buy again. Great work everyone! <3

Bug: Unable to change system name using iOS remote on Pi2. After filling in the input with the on screen keyboard and pressing done, it reappears with 'RasPlex' printed in yet again.

EDIT: Seemed to be caused by a home plug that was running slow. Restarting the home plug fixed the problem, as well as some playback problems I was having.

Couple of issues:

  • Forward and Rewind does not work.
  • Pressing "]" during Cinematic trailer doesn't skip to next track (as PHT does on other platforms)

Pre-caching appears to crash my Pi2 when it tries to cache the Music section. Movies cached fine, but Music will crash it consistently. Needs to be hard reset via power cycle.

This is on a fresh install, no overclocking or any customisation of config.txt from stock.

I installed the 0.5.1 version yesterday on my Pi2 and it works very well, good job !

Thank you !

Also, I'm not seeing On Deck or Recently Added for Movies and TV Shows on the home screen. I'm assuming this is some weird configuration setting I'm missing, so any pointers would be appreciated. :)

On the RPi2 everything seems to work great. Flawless install, no problem setting up the network. Fast precaching.

But i have one Bug to report. As soon as the RPi2 reboots for the first time after the initial setup, the "on deck" and "recently added" thumbnails disappear from the main menu. I tried everything to bring them back (logout and back in to my plex, another precaching etc.) but plex wont show them again.

edit: sorry, i did not see Djelibeybis reply (gues we had a racing condition here : ) he is exactly describing my experience.

Try set Settings -> Network -> Advanced Network Settings -> Wait for network before starting XBMC, this seems to fix that issue for me.
