RasPlex 0.4.0 RC1 is out !

It's been a long time...

We've been hard at work. There are several big changes coming your way:

- Autoupdate now built directly into PlexHT in RasPlex - no more reflashing!

- Transcoder profile (soon to be included in plex server) to automatically transcode formats the Pi can't play

- Precaching of remote servers and server selection

- Speed, responsiveness, and stability

- Rock solid iOS and android support

- PlexHT 1.0.11 changes

We've also fundamentally changed how releases in RasPlex work:

- No more experimental, unstable, or bleeding builds

- Select an update channel - "stable" or "prerelease"

- Everything in one place on Github - files, release notes, issues, wiki

- New installer using GitHub instead of sourceforge

A lot of work happened behind the scenes to make this possible, thanks for being so patient. Our source tree is nearly in sync with Plex Inc's source tree, which will make it much easier for us to support CuBox once Gotham is merged in sometime in the next few weeks.

A prerelease, 0.4.0-rc1 will be available later today (most likely).

In the meantime, to help you waiting …

Can you confirm that it also fixes this issue:

Regards.

It should as this has been fixed in 1.0.11

Can't wait!

good news, will 256mb rPis like these changes? My exp was the 256 was unusable

Amazing, I was still running the old rasplex (really old version) and I only just put the new one on today (which I presume is not 0.4.0) and I was still impressed how much better it was!!!!

I only came to the forum to ask the following question not expecting to see the 0.4.0 announcement.

So, anyway, is there a way to lockdown the preferences?

I have a vacation rental running the old rasplex which I was able to lockdown pretty well, especially since the guests only have access via a Remote Control.

I guess worst case scenario, I could edit the XML and REM out the Preferences menu.

Thanks for all the hard work, I am truly impressed already with what is now the older version :-)

Oh, by the way, is there an easy way to use an existing lircd.conf file from RaspBMC with RasPlex 0.3.1?

I tried ftp'ing the file to the "/storage/.config" folder and rebooted but its not recognising my remote.

On RaspBMC, I had to put the file in the "/home/pi" folder and it worked.

Kinda hijacking the thread…

Awesome! Where will the pre-release be upon release? On github? Ive been wanting to get my server updated but the on deck error caused me far too much grief from my partner so i had to roll it back! :stuck_out_tongue: eager to get it going!

The pre-release should come very shortly within the next 12 hours ... just a few minor details to polish.

Then depending on users feedback it might become 0.4.0 if it's running good for everyone :)

I used the Mac installer, would we just use that installers and look for bleeding to get this release candidate?

If we set to auto update will the rc auto update to 0.4 when its GA'd?

Thanks looking forward to checking this out.

Great News, well done dude.

I am still using 0.3.1 (sorry i didn't get around to trying the other experimentals)

As soon as 0.4.0-rc1 is out though I will be installing it and letting you know how it goes.

Thanks for all your hard work :D

I'M SALIVATING!!!!!

Sweet!

Gimme that download link. Can't wait to try it out!

Jesus christ.

Exactly. what. I. wanted.

rpi+rasplex is now pretty much better than every other solution, and to think I was about to leave to another platform because of the mpeg2 problems.

thanks guys.

Yes this release should be the last one requiring reflashing. It will be able with the updaters or images like previous builds were.

Then you should be able to switch from that one to next experimental or stable by selecting the proper channel in Autoupdate preferences and just do Get Update.

It also should allow limit the hassle of switching and testing experimental releases as all you have to do is switch between channels and do Get Update again.

Lets says you are running 0.4.0 stable, and you want to check out experimental, just flip the channel -> Get Update -> Update & Restart. If anything is bothering you with experimental, switch the channel back to stable -> Get Update -> Update & Restart and you're back to stable release without any reconfiguration :)
