RasPlex 0.6.0 released - Issues and Feedback

Hello,

Just installed 0.6.0 and it works perfectly, on my raspberry pi 512 mb, yesterday i bought  a Pi2, and the problem started, I get a multicolored square over my tv-screen and nothing more happens, maybe this is the wrong forum for this, and that I shoud ask at raspberry insted? If anyone has some suggestion for solving this I'll be very grateful.

Have installed 0.6.0 on my Pi2 and all is working fast and smooth. No 5.1 problems for me (Onkyo Amp and LG TV).

But, I have noticed a problem in the music section. For some reason all my albums in an artist folder are not listing in alphabetical order. The artist list is in alphabetical order, but when you go into to see the list of albums, the list is not ordered.

For example, on the previous version if I went into my Pet Shop Boys folder, it listed them like this :

Actually

Disco

Disco 2

Elysium

Format

Now, it lists them like this:

Elysium

Format

Disco 2

Actually

Disco

When you go into the album the tracks are listing in the correct order, it is just the albums list that is not working.

OK. I have found the answer to me problem. Unfortunately the new version of Plex Media server actually now orders them by year, rather than alphabetically as it did before.  While this is OK for some situations, there are other situations where I need an alphabetical list. For example audiobooks. When I get a new one in a series I want it to appear with the other similarly named ones, rather than at the top as the year is newer than everything else.

The Plex developers have indicated they will address this in the next release of the Server. Maybe making it an xml setting that can be changed, or a value that can be changed in the Windows registry.

There is still one issue I do have which I thought would have been fixed in this release ow it's on the newer audio engine. When playing music, when each track ends and the next one starts, my amp clicks as it locks onto the file - by the time it has sorted itself out then it has missed the opening second or two of the track. I had read other comments about this here saying that the new audio engine would cure this - but it's still happening. Doesn't matter if the audio is WAV, FLAC or MP3.

I have a Plex client in my LGTV. It's very basic but it handles the audio perfectly. It doesn't send any kind of audio format update signal between tracks, so no clicking amp and no missing start of tracks.

Is this something that can be sorted in an upcoming release?

Thanks

Is this using HDMI or Analogue audio output? I haven't seen any other reported audio problems like this.

HDMI direct from the Pi2 to the Amp. Did the same on previous Pi B+.

It was talked about here (in essence the same issue):

https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/issues/229

It was mentioned that the new gotham release would use the new activeae system which would overcome this.

My apologies, had completely forgotten about this since the issue was closed.

Current Rasplex is still Frodo based, however, I have an early alpha version of the Rasplex Helix build which I'll test to see if this is fixed, can you confirm that we are talking about flac media (which I think was the original GitHub issue you referenced), as my 18,000 plus .m4a (iTunes) and .mp3 music tracks haven't presented this issue on my Sony AV amps on any version of Rasplex. I'll rip a CD to flac to test.

Yes. All my music is FLAC.

But, I have just done a text with one of the albums converted into MP3, and that is the same. When one track ends, the amp clicks and it's symbols indicating audio format being received flash a couple of times, then it locks on and starts playing- by which time a few seconds have been missed.

The guy in the original post also had an Onkyo amp - so maybe it's something specific to those amps?

Many thanks for looking into it.

I have an Onkyo amp as well and have experienced these same issues. My library is all .mp3 and .mp4. Must be an issue with Onkyo receivers.

Have tested this using my Sony AV amps in 0.4.1, 0.5.0, 0.5.1, 0.6.0 (also 0.6.1 and alpha Rasplex Helix build - no, I can't say when these are coming), unfortunately I don't get any clicks, audio format on amp display stays constant. Tried with flac files, as I said previously I never have had any issues with .m4a or .mp3 files either.

Have you tried trying different settings on the amp? (There seems to be quite a number of 'listening modes').

Seems like this is an issue with Onkyo amps, no one has (yet) reported this with other manufacturer's amps.

We're pleased to release RasPlex 0.6.0!

We’ve also added support for Hyperion! You can now use ambilight systems powered by Hyperion with RasPlex. Just select ‘enable hyperion’ from the Services submenu in System Settings. You can customize your Hyperion config by copying your config file to /storage/.config/hyperion.config.json. If you don’t already have an Ambilight setup, you should check out http://lightberry.eu/.

Do you have got some more informations about the support ?

I got my lightberry setup today and added the config file on the PI2 and enabled it in the Service menu. But it dont work. I have also restarted my PI2.

I'm very pleased with 6.0.  Can you provide a link where I can make a donation to support the developers?  Thanks!

Go for it!

Btw. Since i decided to remove my overclock settings my problems went away. Coincidence? I won't touch it until the next release. I'm a happy camper!

This is definitely the right place for discussing all things related to RasPlex as such, although definite bug issues should also be reported at our github issue repo.

But that's not the case for your problem.

There are two problems common to people starting to use RPi2 after using RPi1.

The main issue is that you need different SD card images. You can't use the same image on both hardwares.

Another common issue is that the RPi2 requires more power, so a PSU sufficient for an RPi1 might not suffice for the RPi2.

He posted in another topic, see his response here https://forums.plex.tv/topic/161013-new-install-coloured-screen-on-start-up/?p=923647

@ClubLife:

I think your RPi2 with problems is subject to 'spontaneous' corruption of two kinds.

Having to get rid of the problem by reflashing indicates corruption of the SD card contents.

Common causes of such problems include inappropriate SD card class (should be class 10), and insufficient PSU current capability or voltage stability (should be 5Volt stable at 2 Ampere).

Being able to get rid of the problem by simple reboot of the system indicates corruption of RAM contents or CPU instability.

The most common cause of such problems is insufficient PSU capabilities, as described above.

In your place I would double-check that the SD card is of class 10, and also check the PSU capabilities, and would test with another PSU in any case.

NB: In some cases PSU problems are caused by the connecting cable, rather than any fault or limitation of the PSU itself.

No matter how good the PSU electronics design is, a high-resistance cable or bad connectors can ruin everything.

Thanks for the informative reply dlanor.  I would never have thought to check the cable, as I had not been receiving the rainbow square icon at all.  Strangely enough, this is the same USB cable and PSU I'd been using for 0.5.1 on a B+ for months without any stability issues, and that was overclocked to the settings you suggested in the 0.5.1 thread.

I've swapped out the USB cable for the PSU with another identical one I had spare for another room, it appears to have worked, thank you! 24 hours without any transcoding required nor restarts required, fingers crossed it remains that way.

Sadly though, the RPi2 upstairs which is also on 0.6.0 has started the whole "Transcoding required" milarky now too, which is also fixed with a restart.  Surely all of these cables can't be faulty? 2 out of 4 seems a bit too high odds, considering they worked just fine with 0.5.1 on overclocked RPiB+'s.

I have tried all settings on the amp - including locking the audio to one type of format - but still does it.

But as I mentioned, my TV has a Plex app (LG 24UB620V), which if I play that to the amp then no clicking or missing of starts of tracks. But the inbuild Plex app is very basic and nowhere near as good as the RasPlex system.

The only difference is that the TV out to the amp is by a optical cable.

I wonder if I should rewire my system so that the RasPlex connects direct to the TV and then it routes the audio by optical to the amp. Not ideal but it's worth a try.

If you Google you'll find that the change in the power circuitry in the RPi2 has made them more susceptible to power supply/cable problems, strange as the changes were supposed to be a forward step according to the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Worth a try.

Well, have recabled my system so that the Pi HDMI goes direct to the TV, then the TV sends the audio via Arc to the Onkyo Amp - and problem is cured. No more clicking and missing start of tracks.

I am a bit baffled as to why this would be any different - the signal from the Pi is still going via HDMI. But, it's working OK now so I am happy.

Thanks again for help and suggestions.
