RasPlex 0.6.0 released - Issues and Feedback

3 major issues found for RPi 2 rasplex 0.6.0:

1. No DTS/DD HDMI passthrough. All sound output converted to PCM stereo. I did enabled all the passthrough options in the audio output settings.

2. Local network video play still playing as transcoded if the settings for the remote server quality is set to transcode, even the Local network play is set to Direct Play.

3. Double keypress on Panasonic TV remote when CEC enabled. This has been fixed in the latest openelec build (5.0.8) and has been plaguing the ever since. https://github.com/Pulse-Eight/libcec/issues/13

And I am back on latest openelec build with plexbmc. :(

Yep, same here. Have a 2010 Viera and have this exact double keypress issue. Also, I couldn't control playback via pause/play etc.

The same remote works (mostly) fine on openelec 5.0.8. This Rasplex glitch caught me by surprise because I assumed it was based on latest openlelec and therefore remote function should be identical.

Other than that, Rasplex looks quite interesting so thank you to the devs.

I get double press on my sharp TV using CEC. Thought it was the remote.

Looking forward to the next update with this fix!

Has anyone posted this as an issue on Rasplex Github pages, if you don't we won't be looking at it. There is a sticky about reporting issues at the top of the forum.

For info, don't get this on Sony TV or Samsung TV, therefore could be a TV manufacturer CEC issue, not every manufacturer implements CEC the same, and not all manufacturers include CEC updates in their firmware fixes.

If the audio you’re passing through is via your TV. That could most likely be the reason it’s coming out as PCM.

My telly accepts DTS/DD and plays it direct out the telly speakers. [i get the logos on the picture info display] I haven’t tried/needed to use ARC to output it to an AV amp.

Plus the CEC double press. I thought was the CEC of the telly or the remotes poor ability to control it. Didn’t think it would be a pi problem. By if I’m not the only one then fair enough!

Haven't had a chance to update yet but should later tonight. But how's performance so far on the first gen B models? Especially after running a while? I am currently running Rasplex on a first gen model but also have a second gen. But I'd rather leave the horsepower available for other projects if the first gen is smooth enough now. The only reference I have to go by is using Openelec 5.x prior to Rasplex using the stock skin and it was pretty good on performance. Not sure how much tacking Plex on changes that.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

With all older versions, PMS never had to transcode for Rasplex. Now some video's can't play at all. (fails after waiting for transcode) I searched for a Rasplex profile, but there is no profile yet. Is there a new setting that I missed?

Also Hyperion isn't stable.. The Rasplex version stops after a certain time.. I did a manual install, but now autostart is not working.. the hyperion installer creates its own line in /storage/.config/autostart.sh

What's passable for some people is painful for others.  Only you can decide that.  Personally, I see no reason to use an old Raspberry Pi for Rasplex.  Even the Pi2 isn't as fast as some other client options.

Agreed. Just updated the skins on the NUC2820 and Pi2 with latest Plextra.

Moving around them is night and day!

NUC is capable. Pi2 is ok. It's perfectly fine. Just a little slow.

I'm running rasplex on a pi2, and it's 100% out of the box.

I am happy with performance and usually.. I am quite fuzzy..

it loads my 400 movies fast, it loads all my tv shows fast, and the time it takes for it to start a 30-40Gb movie is as good as any..

I had similarly positive experience on 0.5.X version as on 0.6.0.

on the pi1 model B I was ok happy.. but the difference between pi1 & 2 is easy to 'feel' when browsing movies etc...

There are things I'd like to see added as features, stuff I want in a certain way.. but all in all.. I am very happy with all the work you guys are putting into the plex experience.. :-)

Hit by the 5.1 audio bug as well.  Was working fine in that configuration until the update.

Hope it gets resolved quickly.

You have your audio going through your TV and/or using optical output to a receiver?  What model of TV do you have? More details mean narrowing down the issue becomes a bit easier.

HDMI from the Pi -> Toshiba 55WX800U -> Onkyo DS777 Optical No HDMI inputs (5.1 speaker setup)

I had Rasplex set to 5.1 output and AC3/DTS enabled on 0.5.x   Now its set to 4.1, disabled AC3/DTS for 0.6.0 and I'm able to get dialogue from the center channel.

I found a post on the Toshiba forum about their TV's not passing DD over optical when the input is HDMI. Maybe this is your problem

http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Televisions/new-tv-dolby-digital-not-working-through-optical-audio-output/td-p/141658

If you've purchased the DD license for you RPi and disable AC3/DTS and choose 5.1 output, it should decode the DD to multichannel PCM, which i would think your TV would pass over optical to the Onkyo.

I’ll have to reread that entire thread on the Toshiba site, but am curious why this was working before on 0.5.x.

My setup RPi2 -> Panasonic AVR SC-HTB170 -> Panasonic Plasma

It's PCM stereo all the way.

However, I can get DTS/DD passthrough with OpenELEC 5.0.8.

Well, just upgraded to 0.6.0 on my first gen B model, zero overclock, and performance is definitely acceptable all things considered. Not expecting silky smooth 60fps zero delay UI transitions. As far as I am concerned if it is as good or better than a bog-standard cable box for responsiveness, it works. :P I'll see how it fares in about a week of uptime and use.

You're absolutely right. The prime cause of this issue is manufacturer-specific implementation details for HDCP and CEC.

Even so, any media player software intended to work with a wide variety of devices will need to adapt to such details, as done in OpenELEC 5.08.
I think we should emphasize to the end users of RasPlex, that for features of this kind we're dependent on the components used to build RasPlex.
For this particular release we've used a slightly older OpenELEC version 5.07, so this issue should disappear as we merge the next version.

is it possible to jump to a specific time in a movie? OR can I only fost forward using the dedicated FF-buttons?

As far as I know it's not possible on RasPlex yet. Kodi has had this feature since 2009. You simply press the time you want to jump to on the remote after pressing play e.g. 2213 for 22m 13s.

I have a new issue, but it is only happening on one RPi2. RasPlex is set to Direct Play for local video quality, but it's transcoding everything. When I press play a message in the bottom right pops up saying "Settings require remote transcoding to 3000 Kbps". I just tested it by playing the same episode on the one downstairs (having the issue), and the one upstairs in the lounge. The one upstairs Direct Plays just fine, although still suffers from the hanging/lagging.

The logs attached are from the RPi2 downstairs. I'm going to try another clean install (4th time lucky!) and see what happens.

I've just reformatted the SD card using SD Formatter, then re-downloaded GetRasplex from https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/releases/download/0.6.0/GetRasplex.exe. I then selected "Raspberry Pi2" -> "0.6.0" -> "Download" (Waited for it to finish) -> Selected my SD card from the dropdown -> "Write SD Card" (Waited for it to finish and removed safely).

Popped it back in my RPi2 and switched on, went through the setup and everything seems to be back to normal, I can now direct play again. However, the lagging/hanging and "Please wait..." is still there.

EDiT III
Left the RPi2 alone after setting it up again earlier, came to watch it just now and it started with the transcoding thing again...restarted it and it went back to direct playing.

I'll try watching some stuff on the one upstairs tomorrow and see if it happens on that one, tbh that one is rarely used unless the folks want to watch something, so I have no idea until I see it with my own eyes.

Hello

Really enjoying the new RasPlex build.  Thank you.

Question -- movies encoded in mkv wrapper with FLAC 7.1 audio get passed through as 5.1 audio tracks to my receiver (which is 7.1 capable).  Is this a limitation of the current software or the RasPlex hardware?  If software -- will it be addressed in future builds?  I am using a Rasberry Pi2 if that matters.

Thank you again,

CT

I know normal AirPlay is screwed completly now but that part isn't what I'm here for. Booted up my rMBP today & discovered it found my RasPlex Pi as an "AirPlay display", except when you try to connect its doesn't actually work. (I don't expect it too)

@ClubLife:

I think your RPi2 with problems is subject to 'spontaneous' corruption of two kinds.

Having to get rid of the problem by reflashing indicates corruption of the SD card contents.

Common causes of such problems include inappropriate SD card class (should be class 10), and insufficient PSU current capability or voltage stability (should be 5Volt stable at 2 Ampere).

Being able to get rid of the problem by simple reboot of the system indicates corruption of RAM contents or CPU instability.

The most common cause of such problems is insufficient PSU capabilities, as described above.

In your place I would double-check that the SD card is of class 10, and also check the PSU capabilities, and would test with another PSU in any case.

NB: In some cases PSU problems are caused by the connecting cable, rather than any fault or limitation of the PSU itself.

No matter how good the PSU electronics design is, a high-resistance cable or bad connectors can ruin everything.

Hello,

Just installed 0.6.0 and it works perfectly, on my raspberry pi 512 mb, yesterday i bought  a Pi2, and the problem started, I get a multicolored square over my tv-screen and nothing more happens, maybe this is the wrong forum for this, and that I shoud ask at raspberry insted? If anyone has some suggestion for solving this I'll be very grateful.
