Rasplex can't play media while other plex clients have no problem...

Hi All,

I’m running Rasplex 1.7.1.137 on a RPI3 with a HiFiBerry Digi+ sound board. Only change was to enable this board in config.txt.

The plex server runs on a QNAP NAS (the new TS453BMini). It is version 1.3.4.3285.

Rasplex does display all the libraries correctly, but won’t play any file. Error message “Unable to play Media. Please check that this file exists and the necessary drive is mounted”. I get this whatever the media, mp3, avi or mkv…

The strange thing is that my Samsung SmartTV runs Plex fine, all media files run perfectly. Same for the plex client on a windows10 PC and on a Windows10 smartphone.

To be sure I did a chown -R and a chmod -R 0777 on all media files on the qnap, but that didn’t help.

Any clue? any config I should be looking at?
thanks!

I think - i.e. I am not sure - I have seen this message to, but it is misleading. I came to the conclusion that the server does not start to deliver the media stream fast enough. Hence, Rasplex times out, and puts up this message.

I could well be that does to your configuration change something needs transcoding. The NAS may not be fast enough to deliver data.

All I am saying: You may get this error message, because of something else failing.

thanks for your reaction. Is there any way to control the timeout on the RPI or the reaction of the PMS? I looked around but didn’t see anything…

I’ll unmount the sound board, to see if that’s the culprit.

The problem remains after removing the hifiberry board and restoring config.txt to its original state.
So it isn’t linked to this change.

Rasplex just can’t read the media…

So, you are saying that you do not get your prior performance despite you reversed the change you made to the system?

If you want to dig deeper, you will need the log from the server at the time when you invoke the streaming process. Please, select the debug level for the logging.

It would also be worthwhile to know other details, such as, are server and client connected by WLAN or a wired network? Is the server local or somewhere on the internet.

But may be you just have gotten and worn-out ethernet cable or RJ45 connector…

The pi and the NAS are in the same room, wired, on a brand new switch.
I could find the entries in the server logs, seems that the client disconnects.

But now I downloaded the lastet rasplex release 1.8 and this seems to solve the problem. I tried some random reads and the media load and plays correctly. Hifiberry is recognised. Will now test the toslink output to the amplifier.

Thank you Eckarth for taking the time to respond!
