RasPlex RC2 Issues - Please report feedback here

Hi Guys, here is a new Topic to discuss RC2 issues.

See my Signature for reporting any issues with it.

Also please give feedback on issues already reported in GitHub Issues so that we can confirm wether issues have been fixed or not.

Cheers !

Not really an issue, have only been running rc2 for an hour or two.

Update process went smoothly.

Would be nice to see a bit more 'progress bars/status messages', there are a few minutes there where you don't know whats going on.

Also, would it be better to download and announce the update?   Perhaps cut down on the time between saying Update and Reboot and then actually seeing it 'do stuff'.

Might have been my excitement/impatience, but just looking at if from a non-techy POV.

Totally agree with this. Currently updating now and i originally thought it had bugged out and tried restarting my pi thinking it would install the update on reboot like previous versions. Perhaps make the notifications persistent on the screen rather than only staying for a second.

Edit: now it seems rc2 has been removed. was some way through the update and the pi restarted itself, its still on rc1 but now whenever i click update now it says im up to date. Yet it shows current version as rc1. Music files still dont play so im assuming it is indeed rc1

having automatic updates enabled i was greeted with an 'Update and Restart' entry in the main menu. nice!

having done so, however, i got an md5 checksum error upon restart. the machine then continued to boot into rc1 and has been stuck at that version ever since. IOW i neither have the menu entry mentioned above and when i check manually for new updates (both in the rasplex settings, as well as in the regular settings) it reports back that everything is up-to-date.

perhaps it doesn't actually check at which version it is but only consults its download logs or which archives have been downloaded?

how to best try the update again? thanks!

I believe the download has been removed for whatever reason. So you probably downloaded half the file before it was removed. I cant find it on sourceforge so i assume its not there anymore. (I believe this is where it checks for updates)

Still having issues with rasplex reverting to the homescreen while the audio file keeps playing in the background. I believe this is already logged as a bug in rc1

the sourceforge hosting has been abandoned AFAIR (yay!). i can see rc2 just fine at github: https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/releases

Just performed the update - took 3 minutes 56 seconds to complete, rebooted twice as expected.

Noted that the Rasplex Settings reverted back to the defaults, had to set some back to my settings

Confirmed Music now fixed, plays both MP3 and M4A.

I then rebooted, and Rasplex reverted to 0.4.0rc1 - tried to go through update again and it tells me that I am running latest version. Current version displayed is 0.4.0rc1.

I did notice when it rebooted in the initial updated that it couldn’t mv the kernel and ?image files - operation not permitted, possible permissions issue? When I performed a manual boot it updated the kernel and bootloader, problem is it went so quickly that I didn’t have time to correctly note which other files were updated.

What now?

If running usb 3.0 and sd card 10 does the update automatically update both devices ?

I need to check with dale who made the release. It might be an issue with version reference. Can you check if MP3 playback is working.

It could be rc2 but which has an improperly tagged version.

If MP3 playback is working, it should be rc2 even if tagged as RC1.

Lemme know what your findings are.

FTR mp3 playback still does not work here. IOW it probably really is still on rc1 rather than a mis-tagged rc2.

I just manually updated by reflashing my SD card as the auto update didn’t work. flashed fine however on reboot it reverted back to rc1. Now again when i check for updates its telling me no updates are available as before. Is indeed rc1. Audio files no longer work again.

Sorry LongChair, my Pi is definitely back at 0.4.0rc1, music not playing, same codec message, all of the other fixes in rc2 have also disappeared!

Perhaps for now , I will manually flash one of my other Pi's for now to carry on testing.

Regards.

Just rebooted after verifying that I was on rc2, I watched it do some kernel and system updates, it rebooted again and now back at rc1.

No updates available.

Wow, perhaps this is intentional to stop anyone finding new bugs, only joking!!

Some users are reporting an MD5 check failure when updateing upong reboot which will cause it not to update to RC2.

i'll check with dale what happenned and we will fix this.

I think I know what happened to the update.

I, like a number of people run both an SD card and USB stick, I think that the update has got screwed and overwritten the config files on the SD card so that it's not seeing the USB stick as the main device, the auto update updated the files on the USB but not the SD card therefore on reboot it is running from the SD card (which is still at rc1).

Give me an hour to check this out and I'll post back my findings.

Regards.

FWIW i'm not running with an USB stick, just a SD card.

sorry for going OT here but i'm curious: what's the benefit of such a setup? perhaps there's an existing thread you can point me to? thanks!

Improved performance, but since 9.9.20 I feel like this isn't necessary anymore, at least on my rev B pi.
