RasPlex RC3 Issues - Please Report feedback here

The 'static' lockup issue is back again in RC3.

I am running the latest PlexPass version of PMS.

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/102600-freeze-when-starting-video-static-like-display-rasplex-9920-pms-0997429/

Happening on local content, cloudsync content, just browsing around on the On Deck menus.

Precaching just stops while scanning  my Tv Shows section. Completes all my other sections and then when I try to go to Tv Shows , I get an error.

The Navigation item failed to load. Check Logs for more information.

Have you tried repeating the precache operation again ?

In some early release candidate versions precaching did crash for me too, but when repeating the command it usually succeeded.

On a second run of the precaching it will quickly skip past the sections that succeeded earlier, performing real work only for the section(s) that failed earlier.

If the problem persists it might help to know more about your setup, such as the SDcard type and any modified configuration (such as overclocking etc).

It's always a good idea to include such details in any problem report.

Had the last 3 times watching an movie a very anoying problem. Every time after round 15 - 25 minutes the Rasplex hangs completly. Had to reboot it. After reboot i could watch the whole movie without problems.

I have tried pre caching multiple times. Always the same result. I did find out it also skips my music section.

I still have around 2 gig free on my card. I thought maybe it was running out of space but that doesn't appear to be the problem.

I was not overlocking and had no modifications. I did over clock later and try it and the same problem.

My card is a HP 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card L1878A.

It gets through 4 sections with around 2000 items.

With this setup, I was running without problems on the older releases (9.x) but of course they didn't have the precache.

Thanks

Skips ? Exactly how was that indicated ?
It may pass a small section very quickly, but it shouldn't skip them.

2 gig free sounds fine, but that also depends on how you checked it.

Yes, overclocking is not likely to improve this sort of thing. It just makes some things happen faster.
That can prevent video playback problems for high-bitrate streams, but it can't do anything for crashed precaching.

My card is a HP 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card L1878A.

Class 4 means that you should NEVER use any overclocking. Doing so is likely to corrupt the content.
I strongly recommend getting a Class 10 card instead, even if you don't plan to overclock again.

It gets through 4 sections with around 2000 items.

2000 items is quite a lot, especially if a large part of those are Movies and TV shows (not just episodes).
But if you still have 2 gig free on the card, that should not be a problem.

With this setup, I was running without problems on the older releases (9.x) but of course they didn't have the precache.

The precaching is an important change, both in its effect on GUI speed and in the added requirements for the storage partition.
Still, if you really have 2 gigs free in the Ext4 partition, you're nowhere near the point of running out of space.

If on the other hand, something went wrong with the 'growstorage' command at first run, then those 2 'free' gigs may be outside the useful partition space, in which case you probably would run out of space for the number of section items you mention. The original size of the Ext4 partition is quite small, and it needs to be extended to cope with a large media library. This is normally done with a "growstorage" command in the "cmdline.txt" file of the FAT32 partition. But if something messed that up, it could explain your problem.

I'm still seeing very intermittent "blips" in audio playback using RC3 (it existed on all the candidates before this).

It is mostly noticeable if there is a soundtrack playing and it has the effect of the soundtrack being very quickly slowed down and returning to normal speed. Happens in a fraction of a second.

 Video remains unaffected.

Happens with all types of media, whether transcoded or not, AC3, DTS, AAC, MP3 etc. Also different containers, video resolutions etc. So I'm not sure if it's bandwidth related. I've tried resetting the overclock settings back to default but the problem persists. I use a fast SD card (legit class 10), I've tried reformatting. I also use Raspbmc with Plexbmc on this same raspberry pi and have not heard this issue when playing back media with plexbmc.

Any ideas? It's obviously not a common issue as I've not seen it reported here, but where should I start to troubleshoot it?

Just a quick thank you.. what you have done with this project makes my life a LOT easier!

Jean

I just ordered a new Class 10 card and will try again next week when it arrives. I will also look to make sure where the free space is at and report back.

Thanks for the info dlanor

C'mon RC4!

Just wanted to say I've noticed these anomalies in sounds playback as well. It happens every now and then and hard to reproduce. I agree it sound like sound pitch is being changed. Whether it is slowed down or ff before returning to normal I can't really tell.

Same for me, it appears to happen especially when watching MakeMKV DVD rips I made myself, so MPEG-2 MKVs with either Dolby DIgital or DTS, vobsub subtitles turned on. Typically I encounter 1 hang per movie, sometimes it happens twice. Is there anything I can check/supply in terms of information (logs etc) to help you investigate this issue?

This happens when RasPlex does software decoding of the audio stream, once every few minutes, not sure why... I don't notice it very often since most of my media is AC3/DTS which is passed through and decoded by my receiver.

That makes sense. I think it has mostly been on sd content with mp3 audio or similar. I also use passthrough.

That's interesting now - I went and checked my Raspex PHT settings and ticked the DTS and AC3-compatible options so those audio formats are now sent directly to my TV (Samsung) rather than decoded by rasplex. Not noticed any audio blips with my DTS and AC3 media!

Yes, the issue remains with my SD content which is mostly AAC or MP3. And also if I do not pass through the DTS and AC3. So essentially it affects any audio decoded by Raplex. It doesn't happen with raspbmc on the same pi, so it looks like a Rasplex issue that has flown under the radar. Looking forward to RC4 to see if the performance improvements will also fix this issue.

Hey, I was trying to add an syslog server and had issues to add the ip adress. I am using iOS app to navigate. The virtual keyboard has numbers, arrows and the done button. Once I click down to click on the arrow "right", I was not able to get back to the numbers. I was not even able to get to the "done" button.

seppelicous, please check out / add to https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/issues/252

Looks like your having some issues with your PMS cache :

the path for that picture is incorrect, that's your problem. You might wanna rebuild your PMS cache :)

Hi,

It's hard to say from this info what is going wrong. What i can say is that i have worked on these stuttering issues that were coming in RC3 and previous versions.

There are various factors, most of them being audio related and also depending on containers & Packets size.

Anyways, the playback has been drastically improved in next version and i doubt that you will see anymore stutter ... just be patient :)
