Ratings issue

Great to hear! The fix was to ensure that there are no duplicates as other users might want to keep their ratings. However I can ask the team if we could remove all ratings for you. Just to confirm, you want ALL of your user ratings to be removed (movies, shows, seasons, episodes)?

Now that Im going through my library I can see the auto-ratings are more or less what I would have rated myself so, no, dont remove the ratings I am fine with this… Thanks very much!!

Ok no problem! Hopefully this has resolved the issue for good but if you see it happening again, let us know

sorry I changed my mind can your remove ALL my ratings? there are a lot of ratings applied to movies and shows I have not watched yet… BUT NOT THE WATCH HISTORY, PLEASE!

Or, if possible, only keep the ratings for the stuff marked as played

It is really bizarre that titles you haven’t watched were auto-rated in October. Would you have any clue of how that could have happened? Logs from your PMS might have helped at the time but it’s been too long, so we wouldn’t see anything useful in them now.

@dbowles1975 are you having the same problem where the titles that you haven’t watched been auto-rated? If so, maybe you have more details?

It could have happened when I was toying with trakt and plex meta manager… but my gut tells me this happened way after I had PMM set up…

But wouldn’t it be possible to keep the ratings only for my watched stuff? If not, delete them all…

Thanks for more info. I’ve checked with the engineering team and unfortunately we are unable remove the ratings for you.

what a pity…

I’ve never even used the ratings feature, but i am seeing multiple duplicates for both watched and unwatched items. They are all within the same range of dates, which was around the time I was setting up Plex Meta Manager. Id prefer to have them all removed if possible. Thanks.

that would be great, yes

Thanks for confirming, I’ll pass this on to the team

Greetings @jpalenz and @dbowles1975 !

I’m one of the engineers working on this issue.

First and foremost, I did want to point out that we should be shipping some bulk editing features in the future that should be helpful here. In the meantime, you should be able to delete individual activities from your ā€œMy Ratingsā€ hub on your Profile. But I completely understand that it might take some time to delete them all individually.

I’m looking into a good way to address this on the backend for you two.

In the meantime, I’m hoping you can help me understand what may have happened on your servers, as it may help us mitigate this issue in the future:

Can you clarify whether the items for which you see ratings have an actual rating on the preplay of the item? That is, does the content look like it has a rating, outside of the ā€œactivityā€ view for which you sent the screenshot?

We cannot, obviously, clear the ratings that you have for a given item, as that is set on your PMS Database. Moreover, if you don’t see ratings on the item preplays, it would definitely be surprising, as the rating history can only be created if a rating exists in the PMS DB.

Any and all additional information would be helpful! If you need assistance digging into your local DB, let me know.

Hello and thanks for trying to find a solution.

After the conversation we had before I decided to run plex meta manager PMM with the operation mass_user_rating_update: reset which effectively removes the stars (user ratings) on the preplay of an item. Before I ran this, the stars on preplay were according to the ones on the activity tab. Problem right now, after removing the user ratings with PMM is that the activity tab still shows my user auto-rating. Something that a) I never rated and b) I never watched. See screenshots for more clarification and THANKS SO MUCH

As you can see in the screenshots, that is an unwatched movie without stars on the preplay screen (because I just ran PMM and removed them) but the activity tab still shows the old rating that I never rated. All that activity in my entire library is around that time Oct 11th.

So will it be possible to tell me what do I have to find in my DB in order to get rid of all rating related activity?

Thanks again

Thanks for sharing!

My initial question was around whether the activity ratings matched the preplay ratings. If they didn’t I’d have been quite surprised, because there is no way to generate activity ratings (which are stored in the cloud) without actually, well, rating the content (which would show on the item preplay). It sounds to me like they did, since you needed to clear them out.

I’m guessing PMM has a bug where it adds ratings to everything in your library, which is… very unfortunate!

I can go into our cloud DB and delete the ā€œactivityā€ ratings for you, I’ll let you know when it’s done.

In the meantime, can I also convince you to try to reproduce the issue with PMM? It’d be super helpful to understand how in the world this could happen, and then report it back to PMM…

Yeah they did match before I ran PMM earlier today…
Im pretty sure it is not a PMM bug since I am 99% sure it was a ME issue…
You deleting all that activity on the cloud would be just AWESOME

I would totally try to reproduce it but I cannot really remember what I did wrong or what settings I broke or… I dont really remember unfortunately…

Maybe @dbowles1975 can help you reproducing it if he can remember

Sorry, a ā€œME issueā€? Can you clarify how you think this might have happened?

Now I remember I had an issue when trying to apply the user rating overlay on my items… then I noticed that what I wanted were the IMDB and rotten tomatoes ones instead so I fiddled quite a lot with those settings on PMM… that could have been the culprit

just to clarify on the pmm functionality a bit.
it has mass operations that can go through your library and overwrite the rating values of the critic, audience and user ratings with values from a variety of sources (imdb, letterboxd, trakt, many more).
so its quite possible that th me problem stems from a configuration where a site rating was written to the user ratings in all those unwatched items.
