I’d also like to request that ALL user ratings be removed. I don’t use the feature and there are just too many to do it manually. Some items have 10-12 ratings per item.
I also noticed this shortly after configuring PMM and messing around with the user ratings overlay.I haven’t tried to reproduce, but I could probably share the configuration I used right before this happened. I’m almost certain the two are related even through their folks claimed it wasn’t possible.
Yes, I reckon it had to be something along those lines
But its not a bug but a user misconfiguration
This specifically is when I noticed it:
https://metamanager.wiki/en/latest/config/operations.html#mass-rating-update
Not knowing exactly what I was doing, I applied Rotten Tomatoes scores to my user ratings. Also, at the time, I was having issues getting the script to complete, so I was starting it over and over to diagnose where the issue was. It ended up being an issue with using Mdblist as a source. Once I removed that, it completed.
Anyway, the constant running of the script, and the multiple entries for certain items, combined with the timing of the issue leads me to believe with almost 100% certainty that PMM is the culprit. Unfortunately, they have no operation to remove the activity.
Yes that must have been it…
BTW, they have an operation to remove the stars but not the activity, JFYI
Yeah, I ran that multiple times thinking it would remove the activity. As you said… no luck.
i would wager there will be an activity clearing option within pmm in the future.
but right now there is none, likely because the activity stuff is part of the opt in beta of discover together and there is no support for that in the python package used by pmm.

Wow, thanks for all the details! That is quite helpful to understand about PMM (I work mostly on the cloud side, so wasn’t particularly familiar with what PMM is or what it does)
As for the data, we will clear all ratings activity for you two, @jpalenz and @dbowles1975 . It should be done tomorrow, I’ll ping in here when it’s done.
In the future, we will support more bulk editing actions for this data, so that hopefully you can clean this up yourself if something goes awry.
Sounds great, thanks very much
OH! I think you already solved it, didnt you?
@jpalenz you’re correct! Your ratings data and @dbowles1975 data have been cleared on the backend.
Thanks again for all the help tracking down the issue!

BRAVO! thank you again, you are awesome
Hi,
I’m currently experiencing the same issue. Could you be so kind to remove my activity as well? I don’t mind it all being gone.
Hope to hear from you
Can do so in the next couple days! What is your plex username?
Are you using PMM as well? Is your issue the same as what others in this thread are reporting (ratings applied automatically by PMM)?
Hi Ejmartin,
Thanks for your message! I’m making use of PMM and I have indeed the exact same issue. This is not a bug as you asked before, it’s the way the scores are sycned to the posters.
My username is: Quafley (cat photo)
I don’t mind losing all of my ratings, as long as I can just get rid of the backlog
Can you explain this a bit further? I’m not sure I understand why the item needs to be re-rated for the scores to be synced to the posters. (The fact that those are showing up as separate activities indicates the data is being mutated by PMM, otherwise the rating would not sync to the cloud)
I’m curious about something. Although PMM allows for removing the current rating set as shown in the screenshot below.

I currently remove all my ratings with PMM on a daily basis because they keep coming back. Does the beta version retrieve the ratings from the rating history? It seems like it does this.
I highly doubt it, as the ratings history is tied in with the cloud, whereas PMM only interacts with the local DB. However, I’m looking into getting more information about this from the PMM developers.
What I’m not clear on, from reading the PMM link you posted above, is where these ratings are coming from for user ratings, as many people are reporting that they are getting ratings applied for titles they never rated themselves. And the recurrence of the user ratings, which you are describing, feels like a very unfortunate bug
@Quafley it appears that you probably have PMM configured to write ratings from a third party to your user rating field, right? So PMM will keep re-adding those ratings based on imdb, or Rotten Tomatoes, or whatever you have configured.
Hi ejmartin,
Currently, I delete my ratings on a daily basis. This is also done with PMM, by resetting the user rating on all movies in my library on a daily basis. PMM runs as a cronjob once every day, and performs various metadata and overlay tasks within my library. No changes happen outside of the cronjob, since the program is not active. When I run PMM, it removes the ratings.
This link: https://metamanager.wiki/en/nightly/config/operations.html#mass-rating-update also states the following: “Updates every item’s episode’s audience/critic/user rating in the library to the chosen site’s rating.” The site I previously linked is another way of doing it, this however is linked to the user rating the content themselves, which will be synced to the poster when the cronjob runs. The first link I shared will update the user’s rating (stars) to the rating on the chosen site, for example imdb.
I used imdb for the user ratings as well. Since 3 days I’ve removed this from my config by removing the overlay, as seen in the following screenshot:
So there is no way that PMM is updating anything related to the ratings for the user.
When I look at the history of the movie Filth for example, it shows the rating has not been updated for 6 days, yet it still seems to be there.

I just ran PMM manually and the rating is gone:
I checked multiple other movies and they all seem to be last updated on the 23rd this month. I will periodically check and report back when the rating is re-applied again.
At the same time we looked through the meta.log which contains all the actions that happened by PMM. Nowhere within the log anything is done where the user rating is updated.
Is there a possibility to remove all my ratings from the backend and see if they return after that?
I hope I was able to provide more information.
