Ready to give up on plex

For the Roku, use Plex retro for now

You may need to look at what you changed.

What changes did you make in the Plex settings.

You said it work for a few days. What are your dhcp leases set to.

The only changes to plex I made was to disable remote (also since it was not working, not a problem) as I had read that may have been causing the home network problem. Other than that, no changes. And no other changes before or during the loss of connection

I have uninstalled and reinstalled plex on both the roku and the fire stick. But i have never seen anything called plex retro available.

Thank you SO much! I hadn’t seen that before, and just added it. I know they will remove it, but maybe fix the other bugs on the new one in the meantime.

I hadn’t either until @CDKIng just mentioned it. It’s a private channel for Roku, and it’s the old Plex UI.

Here is the link to add: https://my.roku.com/account/add?channel=PlexRetro

thanks for the note. but this does not get me connected back to my media. this just shows me a bunch of things to look at. Not showing my media which is the only reason I use plex.

If plex is forever to be only on my laptop and then shared hdmi to my television, it really takes most of the air out of the balloon I had for it. Nothing I have found and read has helped so far. I do appreciate the program immensely. The media information, trailers, reviews it goes and finds for each movie and tv show is the best I have ever seen! I just wish that I could get it to work as well for me as it does for all of you. It makes watching my media much more enjoyable and is the most informative helper I have ever come across.

And, of course, I appreciate immensely each one of your thoughts and ideas on how to try to fix my problem.

What model Roku do you have??? Also which version of the Roku channel are you using??? And while you’re at it, the version of the PLEX server???

My roku is Ultra, the plex server is 1.14.1.5488. The roku channel / app I use is Plex. the server is working fine with the laptop

Disable your windows firewall…

There are three different versions of the PLEX channel for Roku at the moment… PLEX-Retro is version 5.X (this used to be the main app before this last update)… Next is the normal PLEX channel which is version 6.1 (this one cause big problems, especially with older models and the Ultras, and why PLEX-Retro was made available… Finally we have the PLEX-Preview channel which is the current beta version 6.2 and runs much better than version 6.1 ever did, even on my older units…

If you are using the normal PLEX channel, I suggest you try either the PLEX-Retro or PLEX-Preview channel and see if one of those will work any better for you… All three will run side by side so you do NOT have to remove one from your unit to install the other…

. well, actually the problem is not just roku or what roku channel is or is not working. the plex server is unavailable on any device except for the laptop (also where the media is connected). Plex server will not connect on fire tablets , fire sticks, or android phones. i have already attempted to disable the firewall to no avail.

Okay, understand… Is the server installed on the laptop or is it installed on another system??? This all worked for you at one time, right??? Please check two things under the server network settings tab and show advance…

First, since this is a laptop, check the setting for Preferred Network Interface… Second make sure the Enable local network discovery (GDM) box is checked…

The server is installed on the laptop. It worked for around a week on all devices within the home network. (however it would never connect for remote for outside the network). Ok, just clicked the box for network discovery .

Can you ping the Roku, or the fire stick from the laptop? How about the gateway.

It may help with screen shots of your settings page, and router info.

i have just uninstalled both plex and the plex server. I may try it again some day. But I have grown disillusioned with what I thought was a dream come true platform. Thank you

How do u connected to Plex r etro

Have you tried using Plex as a DLNA server and is that content accessible to your devices? That would eliminate some network things to look at if you can see the DLNA server.
