Ready to give up on plex

I have used this forum to first try to get Plex remote running to enable close friends to see it. To no avail after days of following people’s suggestions. Now both my Roku and my Fire Stick will not connect to Plex except for offline viewing of things I have no interest in. Plex looks like a wonderful thing. But now the only way I can use it is from my laptop and an hdmi cord to the TV. Does anyone have any ideas, hints, or suggestions about why in the world my connections on two media servers would suddenly be lost? Is this a normal happenstance for Plex users?

Just a few more notes. In trying to connect with the fire stick I am told No Server Found; We were unable to to connect to any of your Plex Media Servers. Please check that they are accessible/

If checking that are accessible is checking to see the laptop connected both to all my media and to Plex server is what that means, then it is accessible and connected to Plex. Just trying to give a fuller picture of what is going on.

What IP address is the remote access giving you?

If you can send a screenshot.

Also what is your network appliances?

I have given up on even trying remote access anymore. I just want to be able to use my roku or fire stick to control Plex on my own network without having to use the laptop, hdmi, and mouse.

I don’t know what screenshot to send. Connection is fine on the laptop, but through hdmi is the only way I can view my plex account. I don’t know what the question about network appliances is about. My problem right now, the only one I want to deal with is to get plex connecting through the roku and fire stick again, as it did for several days before losing any plex connection. The laptop is still connected to plex and fully operational and usable from the laptop or on tv through hdmi. I may be asking this question wrong but I just want to know if there is something I can do to get server connection back up and running to the media servers.

So what connects your laptop with Plex to you client device?

Do you have 1 router or multiple routers to get to the internet?

Getting remote access functioning could be the very reason the client devices cannot connect depending on your topology.

Access Plex through localhost does not need a internet connection.

Before fixing anything, first need to know what was broken…

Does the roku and firestick have internet connection?

Does the laptop have internet connection?

What type of router are you using?

Is there a dedicated switch?

Have you made any config changes to PMS, router, switch, client devices?

The roku and firestick are connected to the router and pick up everything from netflix to amazon prime. the laptop is connected to the internet and connected to plex and is working fine with plex and all my media. roku and firestick, however, after several days of finding connections somewhat fine, now cannot find connections even though every other app is connected to the internet. all of them except plex.

since I have given up on even attempting remote access anymore, I have disabled it. Right now I just want to be able to share within my own network to my phone, tablets, and TV. And none of them is finding a connection anymore. Again the laptop is connected to Plex just fine through the same router all the other devices are using

Have you set static IP’s or disable upnp or dlna?

I had tried setting ip address and disabling upnp when I was attempting to get remote connections to work. But again, after giving up on getting remote to work, all was working fine with connections for all my devices over the internet to Plex servers. They all simply somehow lost their plex server connections without me changing anything. No connections for nearly two days. Just the laptop is connected to a plex server. Internet connection for everything is working fine except for plex on every device except for the main plex connection on the laptop. I just want to learn if losing connection to Plex on devices for long periods of time is a normal thing. If not, what can I do. If so, then it will be time to look for a different media server (though I don’t think any of them could be as pretty!)

I mean setting up a static ip address.

What is the IP address for the laptop and roku?

Just to recap:

Accessible:
Plex local host
Plex web
Roku other channels internet access
Firestick other channels internet acccess

Plex is hosted on local laptop.
Plex is available to local laptop only.
Laptop can access internet

Inaccessible:
Plex to client devices in local network
Plex remote access.

roku is 192.168.0.101

laptop is 192.168.0.102

Have you gone into the router settings

That is it exactly.

I went into the router settings last week when setting ip to be static and attempting to figure out why my remote was not allowing connection. But after not being able to get that to work, had been just enjoying my network here at home with plex. until the media servers, tablets, and phones stopped being connected.

I was always able to access Plex without internet connection until the new update. Now I have the same exact issue as OP. It also stops playing during any movie on my playlist, and I have to completely restart my Roku to even get a connection. This happens on my Roku 4 and Roku Ultra both.
